For over 40 years the organization has never strayedfrom its singular objective. Hydrel conducts themost rigorous testing in the industry, replicatingthe environments our products will be exposed to, and then builds those products to exceeddemanding criteria.

Moreover, we focus our product development effortson breakthrough technology and engineering. Forexample, in 1984 our Sunlight swimming pool lightincorporated new techniques to seal the lamp and electrical components to ensure zero waterpenetration. This superior sealing and use of thethen-new MR16 lamp propelled us to the forefrontof the industry segment. By the early 90s, we werefirst to satisfy a wide range of concerns in in-gradelighting, giving the lighting community and buildingowners reliable, long-lasting uplighting tools toilluminate their projects.

Since that time we’ve developed a unique wet-dry fitting that is still the only solution to satisfy NationalElectric Code standards for zones surrounding bodiesof water. Our 7000 Series modular floodlights werethe first to offer precision light and glare control,easily altered distributions, internal color filters,and a precision taper lock knuckle that remainssolidly in place after aiming.

Hydrel provided outdoor lighting design and high-performance luminaires to light four impressivestructures for the PrimeMinister of Malaysia — the office, residence, guest compounds, andnational mosque.

In so many ways, Hydrel has answered the needs – andsolved the problems – of lighting designers, installers,and owners. However, we can’t claim all of the credit.Our close collaboration with well-known architects,designers, developers and building owners has drawn us into the toughest of outdoor lighting challenges andled us to significant design breakthroughs.

Such collaboration has resulted in unique solutionsfor lighting the spectacular fountains and exteriorarchitecture of major theme parks around theworld. Groundbreaking work was also accomplishedin this fashion for the Trump Tower in New York,and for numerous high-profile projects up anddown the Las Vegas strip.

When the developer of the Mirage Hotel and Casinowanted a graceful daytime fountain to convert oncue into a spewing volcano at night, Hydrel providedcolor application, interface with pyrotechnics, and fixture on-off sequencing to enable this effect.At Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, we blendedour exclusive wet-dry technology with specialcolor treatments to help simulate the raging gunbattle between pirate ships.

Hydrel in-grade fixtures andfloodlights were chosen tohighlight exterior features ofthis world-famous golf club,using HPS lamps to create a warm, welcoming effecton the sandstone façade.

A GLOBAL PLAYER.

In 1991 Hydrel was invited into the early planning stagesof an extravagant theme park in Paris, France. Ourclient was so impressed with the creative applicationand superior performance ofHydrel lighting, they incorporatedluminaires from across our vastoutdoor product spectrum.

This led to additional projects throughout Europe,then the Middle East, the Far East, and Centraland South America, as Hydrel’s reputation forinnovative engineering and practical problem-solving spread.

We were selected to light the exterior walls ofForbidden City in Beijing, China with over 300 in-grade luminaires, giving this national shrine“the honor it deserves.” We helped design andprovided landscape lighting for the world’s tallestbuilding, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. The Dead Sea Hyatt chose Hydrel forexterior lighting because of our superior productperformance and longevity in highly corrosiveenvironments.

Today, Hydrel is the only U.S. company maintainingglobal certification for a fully-diversified line ofoutdoor lighting products. This means that lightingdesigners handling multiple projects in New York,Buenos Aires, Tokyo – or anywhere – can satisfy all local codes and requirements.

IN-GRADE LIGHTING: THE REVOLUTION.

It began as a simple idea: to offer in-ground landscapelighting in pre-sealed watertight modules, separatelyencapsulating lamp, ballast and connectors, so thatwater penetration and condensation would cease to be a problem. Oncerefined and brought tomarket, this innovationrevolutionized in-gradelighting worldwide.

Over a 24-month period, the concept was developed to prototype stage,then tested and fine tuned. It employed advanced seals developed forunderwater lighting, and added dry air purging during the sealing processat the factory. Moisture had no chance of entering – not even duringrelamping, as this process would occur in a clean, dry environment.

The unique modular approach reduced installation costs by 50%, andprotected critical components from physical abuse during construction.Ongoing maintenance fell to an absolute minimum.

Smaller, more efficient lamps, precision reflectors and optically activelenses were also introduced with the innovative 9000 Series, setting new standards for exterior lighting. Interchangeable reflector modulesallowed easy modification of light distributions for the first time in in-grade lighting.

The advent of our patented modular in-grade package spurred high growth in the category, propelling Hydrel ahead of all competition inquality and technology.

Today, Hydrel’s M9000 Series delivers further advancements such aslower lens operating temperatures, and the ability to aim fixtures fromthe outside. The M9000 Series also includes the world’s first 400-wattHID performance in-grade luminaire, providing the industry with aphenomenal tool for challenging floodlighting applications. It’s no won-der Hydrel in-grade products are increasingly selected for entertainment,theme park, hospitality and other high-performance applications aroundthe world.

Where other manufacturers use galvanized steel, we insist on bronze, stainlesssteel, and exotic polymers.
