“Make the benefits and values visible and sensible in an ap-propriate and discrete way”

Motivation

Many of the initial motivations for acquiring a indoor climate product, are not “nurtured” and satisfied in the later use. Some of the benefits and values which appeal to female us-ers (such as economic savings, quality of indoor environment, health of all family members, etc.) are made invisible in the product it self. The link between the product and the well-being of a child is “hidden” by a technical approach to corre-lation of the two.

Show her the benefits

Visualizing the impact of climate control on economy, comfort and health. Visualized benefits act as further motivation, but only if they are showed in a relevant context and in a clear way.

Esthetics on demand

Making the system tangible and visible needs to be compat-ible with the female users desire to “hide” the system. The product needs to take care of her interior. Esthetics of the product need to be either discrete or “appearable” depend-ing on the need for visibility.

Farm Management - user research - 2008

Project description

As an initial part of the SKOV Farm Management project, a great deal of user research was done.The main objective of this was to get familiar with the farmer and his daily routines, to get in-sight and learn his perspective and motivation for using the products.The research was carried out through a handful of situated interviews, HMI system analysis, work-shops and more.The results was documented as user profiles and scenarios to use in the following design phase.
