Marcel Breuer
• Marcel Lajos Breuer was born in Pécs, Hungary in 1902, and became on of the greatest architects and furniture designers of the 20th century .
• Bauhaus, a school of design where modern principles, technologies and the application of new materials were encouraged in both the industrial and fine arts.
• His reputation was based upon his invention of tubular steel furniture, one big residence, two apartment houses, some shop interiors and several competition entries.
Bauhaus Movement
• The Bauhaus movement art and design characterized by • Geometric design• Respect for practical material • Economic sensibilities.
• The Bauhaus school was created when Walter Gropius was appointed head of two art schools in Weimar and united them into one.
• Teaching at the school concentrated on functional craftsmanship and students were encouraged to design with mass-produced goods in mind. Enormously controversial and unpopular with right wingers in Weimar, the school moved in 1925 to Dessau.
Bauhaus Movement
• The Bauhaus school had some famous teachers such as :• Paal Klee.• Wassily Kandinsky.• Marcel Breuer.
• The ideas of the Bauhaus creators have influenced architecture, furniture, typography, and weaving.
• Famous artists of the Bauhaus movement include Lyonel Feininger, Johannes Itten, Franz Marc, Georg Muche, and Oskar Schlemmer.
Examples of Bauhaus Design
