WHAT IS DESIGN FOR CHANGE?• It is a global movement designed to give young people an opportunity to

express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action.• Moving students from passive (“Can I?”) to ACTIVE (“I CAN!”).

Children use a simple process of

FEEL( anything that bothers them)

IMAGINE( brainstorm ways to make it better )

DO( implement the act of change )

SHARE( send the stories to inspire others )

2011: Successes and Triumphs

• Sunshine School was the first school in Laos to participate in DFC.• Students felt proud about helping their local community.• Teachers felt empowered • People at the market were grateful that the students were doing community work• Featured in Vientiane Times

In 2012…• Grow DFC team• Get more schools involved + more stories• Attract corporate & media partners• Organise DFC Event

Timeline/Milestones:-- Early Jan: identify list of target schools; make DFC

presentation ready (English & Lao language)-- Mid Jan: Present DFC to schools & registration of

participating schools-- Early Feb: DFC toolkits to go out to schools (gives 3

months for participating schools to run and document their projects)

-- Early May: Final Submissions of DFC stories-- Mid-End May: Jury review and selection of award

winners -- June 1, 2012: Children's Day Event (see next slide)
