In the 21st century, economic success hinges more than ever on the ability to form connections among creative innovation and business and processmanaging opportunities. In increasingly saturated markets, a company’s success depends on its powers of innovation and the time it takes to implement new concepts. There is a high demand for companies which organise themselves to foster a culture of innovation as well as connect to sustainable trends in the market and to customers’ needs. Designers are the ones who provide impetus and they play a special role: With their ability to challenge existing structures and products and to deliver ideas and solutions beyond traditional paths, designers generate the stimulus that is crucial for the economy and for society as a whole.

Welcome to MCBW 2019!

“ Design creates networks that tap new potential – design connects!”

Design connects people with each other and with technology and analog with digital. Good design connects the economy with society, aesthetics and function, the present and the future

“Design creates networks that tap new potential!”

Design connects the practical and the sensuous, in other words, aesthetics and function. The foremost objectives of design are to make the world more practical and more sensory. Usercentered design and user experience continue to be key factors in making products, services and spaces competitive, thus contributing to the economic and social success of those products. However, products no longer can depend only on good usability as a unique selling proposition; emotional and sensory aspects are coming to the fore. “Pleasure engineering connects joy to business.”

Design connects the past with the future. Designers deal with topical matters and devise solutions that can be applied to future scenarios. They develop concepts for tomorrow’s society that are selfexplanatory, userfriendly, and speedy and which focus on the essentials while reducing the complexity of projects to a minimum.

MCBW START UP establishes the foundation for networking among investors and young entrepreneurs in workshops, coaching sessions, lectures, and oneonone talks. The highlight of MCBW START UP is Creative Demo Night where founders look to the critical eyes of experts and have the opportunity to establish contacts.

Eckhard Wohlgemuth, Manager of the Rosenthal Store in Munich:

“All in all, MCBW is an outstanding platform for making design and companies visible, tangible and understandable. Over the years, the MCBW network has evolved into a close-knit community that keeps growing. Our exhibition on Cédric Ragot this year followed the motto Design connects. Ragot designed porcelain pieces for Rosenthal that have become new classics. He developed novelties from a myriad of drafts, and created objects for Roche Bobois, Veuve Clicquot, Calvin Klein, and Galerie MiniMasterpiece. An exhibition of this magnitude had never been mounted before. It will be offered in other cities as well and at the moment it can be seen during the Kunstnacht event in Selb. The form, ideas and concepts we will present in 2019 will not be revealed until February. What we can say at this point is that we will continue to be an MCBW Partner!”

Jürgen Kellner, Manager of the MAGAZIN® store in Munich:

“It all began in 2012 when I attended one of the many events held during the first edition of MCBW. Then and there I knew our MAGAZIN Concept Store and Creative Spot would be a perfect fit for this format. We have been an MCBW Program Partner for six years and leverage the positive synergies with topics we deal with in our daily work. At the MAGAZIN store we host discussion panels, exhibitions, and readings. Nils Holger Moormann, Stefan Diez, Rolf Hay, Prof. Markus Frenzl, Philip Mainzer, Kuno Nüssli, Thomas Schnur, Hubert Sanktjohanser and Frank Berzbach have been among the guests on our podium. We extend invitations to our customers as well as to all design aficionados and typically 80 to 250 fans attend. Following our soirées, creators, designers, retailers, customers and students sit together over drinks and share their views. MCBW is organized professionally. The support we receive includes promotional materials such as lighted cubes, window banners, and magazines. Our store also is one of the central Infopoints where copies of MCBW’s events brochure can be picked up. We have estab-lished ourselves as a host and our MAGAZIN brand has become a permanent fixture of DESIGN SCHAU!”

Nana Tzivadze, Store Manager of the Alessi Showroom in Munich:

“For years we have hosted an event at the Alessi Showroom during MCBW and many of our custom-ers visit us during this time. In our opinion, the concept for MCBW has proven successful, and the organization and attendance rates are good. We value the promotional materials, particularly the lighted cubes with the visible logo. Also, we think it is important to make design tangible and get people interested in design in these modern, digital times. Feedback has been nothing but positive. We look forward to continuing our alliance with MCBW!”
