INTRODUCTIONSriperumbudur is a town in theIndianstate ofTamil Nadulocated 40kilometers southwest of the city ofChennai. It is known for being the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja. In 1999,Hyundai, one of the initial investors, arrived at Sriperumbudur. By 2008, Sriperumbudur had become aspecial economic zone with over US$2 billion invested by companies primarily in the automotive and electronics sectors.Coordinates: 12.97N 79.95E

Country : India

State : Tamil Nadu

District : Kanchipuram

Elevation : 37m (121ft)

Weather : 34C, Wind NE at 5 km/h 56% Humidity

Metro water will soon run through taps and pipelines in the satellite township of SriperumbudurSriperumbudur has been chosen to be developed as a satellite town under the Centrally-sponsored scheme of Urban Infrastructure Development Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district.Metro water is scrutinising bids to execute water supply and drainage projects worth Rs.90 crore in Sriperumbudur. Work orders will be issued shortly, an official said.

The cost will be shared among the Union and State governments and the Sriperumbudur town panchayat in the ratio of 80:10:10.Though there are many major manufacturing and automobile industries around the Sriperumbudur belt, it presents a picture of neglect like several peripheral areas in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

Steps Involved STEP 1: Population Forecasting

STEP 2: Water demand

STEP 3: Design of Water Treatment Plant

Adopting the incremental increase method of forecasting in calculating the amount of water supplied . Population forecast for three decades, From (2011- 2041) = 76,382 persons Estimated population in 2041 is 76,382 persons Domestic water demandAs per IS1172 1993,The minimum domestic water consumption for Indian town and cities with full flushing system are given below

AssumptionsAverage daily Demand = Population * Average water consumption.

Maximum water demand= 1.8* Average daily demand.

Average daily demand= 76382*200 lpcd= 15276400 lit/day= 15.27 MLD

Maximum water demand = 1.8* 15.27=27.50MLD

Design ParametersThe overall design of the wastewater treatment plant consists of 3 stages:i)Primary treatment which consists of screening, grit removal and sedimentationii)Secondary treatment consists of a bioreactor iii)Tertiary treatment consists of nitrogen removal, adsorption and pH control.
