  • eet Julie Christoffel. Julie is the Accounting Assistant in the Business Department. She has worked at the Park District full time since 2004, but has been with us since 1990 when she was hired as a parttime instructor teaching adult craft classes. In her job, Julie performs a number of important roles, including one of the districts most critical: payroll. During the summer, when the employment level increases to well over 500 staff members, this becomes an even greater responsibility.

Julie grew up in Wilmette, but moved to Des Plaines in 1981 after marrying her husband Bill. They have since moved to Arlington Heights, and have three grown children. Julie enjoys several hobbies, including gardening, knitting, quilting, and cooking.

Amy Garbacz, the districts Finance Manager said, Julie is one of the most dependable employees a supervisor could ever want. She is one of those unique staff members who is always looking for new challenges, and finding a better way to get things done faster and more efficiently. Julie thrives on being busy, and is a great help to staff members who are working on a project or struggling with a problem.

    Q. What do you like most about your job? Having the opportunity to help our customers and our staff. I like the variety of doing something different each day.

    Q. What do you like the most about Parks and Recreation? That we are a people oriented business. What we do every day truly helps improve the quality of life in our community.

    Q. What is the most significant change you have seen at the Des Plaines Park District? The tremendous advance in technology, and how important that is to our day-to-day operations across the entire district.
