Dermabond is a prescription medication that works like a glue to seal the skin, to close wounds, to help them heal and prevent infection. Dermabond should only be used for small areas that would normally be sutured that are smaller than 5.0 in diameter. It can be used on the face, torso and other areas. It should not be used on deep punctures or animal bites. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need: Dermabond Trained professional or doctor Soap Water Antibacterial agent 1. Step 1 Cleanse the affected area with a gentle soap and water. Pat dry. 2. Step 2 Apply an antibacterial agent to the area to reduce the possibility of bacteria entering the wound and prevent infection. 3. Step 3 Hold the edges of the wound together to close the edges. Keep the edges together while applying the Dermabond. 4. Step 4 Crush the vial the Dermabond comes in with the thumb and index finger and turn it upside down. This will allow the Dermabond glue to go through the end of the tube. Dermabond is packaged in single use glass ampules that allow the glue to be released after the vial is crushed. 5. Step 5

1. Step 1

Cleanse the affected area with a gentle soap and water. Pat dry.

2. Step 2

Apply an antibacterial agent to the area to reduce the possibility of bacteria entering the wound and prevent infection.

3. Step 3

Hold the edges of the wound together to close the edges. Keep the edges together while applying the Dermabond.

4. Step 4

Crush the vial the Dermabond comes in with the thumb and index finger and turn it upside down. This will allow the Dermabond glue to go through the end of the tube. Dermabond is packaged in single use glass ampules that allow the glue to be released after the vial is crushed.

5. Step 5

Squeeze the vial gently. The adhesive will go to the tip of the vial. Brush the vial back and forth on the wound several times taking care not to insert the vial into the wound.

6. Step 6

Allow the area to dry for 30 seconds and then repeat the application again allowing 30 more seconds.

Tips & Warnings Proper application of Dermabond requires some practice. The

manufacturer recommends it be applied by trained health care practitioners only.
