CHIRONIn Greek mythology, the centaur, Chiron, was wounded by Hercules. Though he was immortal, it is said that he invented medicine in order to heal himself. He taught Asclepius the art of healing, which became the source of all divine medical knowledge among the Greeks. Chiron was also the teacher of the hero, Achilles, who was thought to have had some special medical knowledge.

THE CHURCH OF ST. POLYEUCTUSThe church was built 512-13 by Anacia Juliana.It was the largest church of Constantionpel before the construction of the Hagia Sophia.The site of the churchwas rediscovered during excavations in the 1960s.


The building survived until the 11th century, after which itfell into decay, while several architectural elements wereremoved and reused in Constantinople and other cities.The sculptures have been removed to the Istanbul Archaeological Museum.
