Dear Members,
Our Summer season has arrived. Our club is cool and we are open for
business. The food is good & the beer is cold. Don't let the summer slip by
without a visit to your club.
We will be starting our Oktoberfest Festivities with the Miss Oktoberfest
pageant on July 21. Our new Miss Oktoberfest will be crowned at this time. It
will be a fun filled formal evening ,so plan on participating. Tickets are now
available.
We need you, if not all six days, try to help at least one or two days.
Every little bit helps. Please call our office or visit us on a Friday evening to
sign up. Oktoberfest dates for this year are: Oct. 19-21 & Oct 26-28.

Die Sommersaison ist hier. In unserem Club ist es kühl und wir haben
geöffnet. Unser Essen ist hervorragend und das Bier ist auch kalt. Lasst den
Sommer nicht verstreichen ohne einen Besuch im Club.
Wir starten unsere Oktoberfest Aktivitäten mit dem Miss Oktoberfest
Wettbewerb am 21.7.2018. Unsere neue Miss Oktoberfest wird dann
gekrönt. Es wird ein festlicher Abend sein, bitte nehmt zahlreich teil. Tickets
sind ab jetzt verfügbar.
Wir brauchen eure Hilfe, wenn nicht für alle 6 Tage des Oktoberfestes, auch 1-2
Tage helfen uns. Bitte meldet Euch im Büro oder an einem Freitagabend und
tragt euch als freiwillige Helfer ein. Die Daten sind: 19.-21.10 und
26.-28.10.2018.

POLICY STATEMENT
The purpose of the German American Social Club of Cape Coral according to its Bylaws is “to promote good fellowship
(Gemütlichkeit) and provide its members with the opportunity for group enjoyment of activities based on songs and traditional
celebrations of German social life. GASC is open to all persons without regard to race, creed, culture or ethnic background. Any
discrimination, racial coments, bigoted remarks by members or guest, theft, and want on detruction to club assets will not be
accepted or tolerated! Members are expected to adhere to this policy of respect towards other members and the club itself both
inside Club property as well as in any public forum, including online forums hosted by and representing the Club. Failure to
abide by this policy will result in disciplinary action stated in section VIII, F 5* of the GASC Bylaws.

Sunshine Report for July/August 2018
Our wishes for speedy recoveries to all
members who have been experiencing
ill health lately including:
Our own Committee member, Carole Cornet,
and her husband Pieter, who were stricken
by a ‘bug’. Pieter had the flu in April and had
recovered by early May. Carole came down
with a different ‘bug’ and ended up with
pneumonia and tissue infections that landed
her in the hospital on May 3rd. She is now
home and is recovering nicely,
attending therapy and expects to be back to
normal soon. We wish them both the best
and thank God for their future good health.
Karen Krueger who had surgery on Friday,
June 1st and returned home to rest and
recover. She has recently been given a clean
bill of health.
Sadly, we have lost members in May and
June and we pray for comfort for their
family and friends.
Alfred Viehbeck passed away peacefully on
May 30th. He has been a member of the
GASC since January of 2011 and travelled
from Sarasota regularly to attend Friday
night dinner dances with his friend
Margarete Keller (m. 1995). He will be
missed by his family and friends and Friday
night table mates.
Doris Sewick passed away on June 3rd after a
long illness. She was 91 years old and a
Distinquished Member of the Club, having
joined with her husband, Herman, in
September of 1984. They were both active in
Club activities. Doris was a member of the
GALS and as mobility became more of an
issue, they sat to prepare silverware
packages for Oktoberfest. Their dedication to
the Club will be remembered by their many
friends.
Inge Zibers had a severe stroke on May 24th
and was transferred to Hope Hospice shortly
afterward. Her prognosis for recovery was
poor and she passed away peacefully on
Sunday, June 3rd. Inge had bounced back
from a stroke last July 2017 and was busily
making her scrubbies for the 2017
Oktoberfest GALS booth. This year she and
daughter Christina could be seen selling
tickets for many of the Club’s events. Her
cheery smile will be missed by her family and
friends. Inge and Christina have been
members of the Club since July of 2006.
Funeral services will take place in Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Club
in the near future.

Beautification
I would like to express a special thanks to all
members of the beautification team who despite
heat and humidity are showing up every
Wednesday to do the necessary jobs which have to
be done. Is it painting, repairing, repairing tickets
booth's and building, grass mowing, electrical work,
pressure washing and painting the garden tables
and benches, plumbing to just call a few or
something else. And thanks to Jean, who came back
to the Club, we are again provided with
refreshing drinks. A special "Thank You" has to be
said to our member Mathias Bayer and his willing
helpers, who removed the old much to steep side
entrance ramps and replaced them with easy
accessible and much safer ones. Thank you again
Mathias, you did a great job.
Ich möchte heute mal einen speziellen Dank sagen
all denen, die trotz großer Hitze und hoher
Luftfeuchtigkeit jeden Mittwoch zum
Beautification Team zum Arbeiten kommen. Viele
Dinge müssen gemacht werden z. B.
Malerarbeiten, verschiedene Reparaturarbeiten,
Instandsetzen von Ticketbuden oder Ersetzen
verschiedener Außenwände, Gartentische säubern
und anstreichen, Elektroarbeiten, Installation, die
großen Grasflächen mähen usw. Und ein
Dankeschön an Jean, die zum Club zurückfand
und uns immer mi t kühlend en
Erfrischungsgetränken versorgt. Ein ganz
besonderer Dank geht aber diesmal an Mathias
Bayer und seine fleißigen Helfer, die die alten,
unsicheren Nebeneingangsrampen entfernt haben
und durch neue, viel sicherer begehbare ersetzt
haben. Mathias, Dir einen besonderen Dank.
Du hast sehr gute Arbeit geleistet.
