The picocellsThe nanoBTS picocells are complete GSMbase stations that use the standard Uminterface to the handset and an Abis interfacecarried over IP for the backhaul.

nanoBTS – A compactpicocell, for GSM/GPRS/EDGE the nanoBTS isavailable in four variantscovering the 850MHz,900MHz, 1800MHz and1900MHz bands.

The nanoBTS offers high-speed data rates withfull support for EDGE and significant increase invoice capacity with half-rate AMR.

The base station offers:

— Indoor range up to 200m

— Low-cost IP backhaul

— Simple deployment – using a singleEthernet connection for power, traffic andsignaling.

— Network Listen™– supplements RFplanning, allowing the planners to see intothe difficult indoor environment to optimizecoverage and avoid interference issues.

The controllerThe nanoGSM BaseStation Controller (BSC)handles and routes all theIP traffic between thepicocells and your existingMSC and SGSN over thestandard A and Gbinterfaces. There is also an option to connectinto architectures with softswitch MSCs.

The BSC provides channel allocation andcontrols the power level algorithms andhandover procedures for the picocells. The unit is engineered for high availability bycombining selective redundancy with fastrestart capabilities.

The BSC combines a processor module,signalling gateway, media gateway and framerelay gateway. It is housed in a 4U highcompact PCI chassis for easy installation in alow-cost package.

The nanoBTS BSC is also provided in asoftware variant called the softBSC, anapplication supported on a standard Lunux®

OS. The softBSC supports all the samefeatures as the hardware BSC.

The managerThe OMC-R (Operations and MaintenanceCentre – Radio) provides all the facilitiesneeded for the operation and maintenance of the nanoGSM picocells and controller.

Alarm managementThe alarm management module collates allalarms according to severity, acknowledgementstatus, probable cause, equipment andmanaged object identification and timestamp.The context sensitive help feature assists theuser in interpreting the alarms and suggestsrepair instructions.

Configuration managementThe configuration management moduleenables all parameters on multiple BSCs andBTSs to be monitored and provisioned remotely.Wizards are used to simplify the setting up ofnew BSS sites and the A-interface.

Performance managementPerformance management files are collatedautomatically to a central repository. Usershave the option of either exporting the raw PMdata to third-party analysis tools or computingvarious KPI’s on a subset of the data. Theresults of this KPI computation is then eitherexported as a CSV file or visualised as a graph.
