In a nOM prefao'\lJl' the seoond paper (p.l44) the then chlef Govern­Itent Geologist, L. O •• 11, states that a stratI1raphic sub ... division ot the Precam'rlan ot North-western Queensland w.s prepared by Shepherd in 1927 and waS transmitted to an interstate conference in 1928. !his stratigraphic table 1s reproduoed tn Shephera (1946, p .. 14~ ant! waS published by David (1932). ('J.'b1s table .111 be referred to f:requent17 throulhout this note). David however, Qha.naed the na. slightly to Mount ISa Shales (p.29J. In 1931 Blanehard and .all referred to the ".ount Iaa Shale series which comprises a two-l111e thicknell of tbiB evenly bedded shale lying between quartzites". Krdlht (19;3, p.35"4) reserved the name Mount Isa Shale Group tor tbe shales west of the Le1cbhardt Fault. He did not name the remainder of the shale sequence.
