In accordance with section 63 of the Financial Management Act 2006, I hereby submit for your information and presentation to Parliament, the Annual Report of the Department of Housing for the financial year ending 30 June 2014.

The Annual Report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Financial Management Act 2006.

Statement of Compliance

PrefaceThe Department of Housing and Works was designated as the Department of Housing under section 35(1) Public Sector Management Act 1994, effective from 1 February 2009.

Note: The Department of Housing has no financial, physical or human resources. It does not have the ability to raise revenue and it does not receive any revenue from the Consolidated Fund and does not employ public sector employees.

The administration of the Housing Act 1980 is the responsibility of the Housing Authority and in accordance with the Financial Management Act 2006, the Housing Authority prepares and submits an Annual Report to Parliament. This report is available on the Department’s website in addition to the Department of Housing Annual Report.

OverviewExecutive Summary/Operational StructureThe Department did not conduct any operational or financial activities for this financial year.

Responsible MinisterThe Department of Housing is responsible to the Hon Bill Marmion MLA, Minister for Housing.

Report on OperationsNil. The Department was dormant during the financial year.

Significant Trends and IssuesNil. There has been no change in the activities of the entity during the financial year, nor are any changes anticipated in the foreseeable future.

Government Policy RequirementsNil.

AuditThe Auditor General Act 2006 allows the Auditor General, in consultation with the Treasurer, to dispense with the audit of the Department if the Auditor General considers it appropriate in the circumstance.

The Auditor General, after consultation with the Treasurer, dispensed with the audit of the Department for the financial year ending 30 June 2014 under section 14 of the Auditor General Act 2006. The Department did not operate during this period and it was considered not in the public interest to incur the cost of these audits.
