Reference Models

The OSI Reference Model

The Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model, is an internationally standardised 7 layer model for network protocol and services.

The TCP/IP Reference Model

The Transmission Control Protocol over (/) the Internet Protocol Reference Model, is an internationally accepted 4 layer model for network protocol and services.

The GII Reference Models

GII, The Global Information Infrastructure, a world wide initiative to improve the interaction between users, network, IT and information providers and producers

Telenettet har været karakteriseret af en række specialiserede delnet, der hver især tilbød et veldefineret sæt af services inden for tale, data og video, hvis eneste primære sammenhæng var fælles udnyttelse af den basale infrastruktur på transmissionsniveauet.

Udviklingen frem mod integrerede tjenester og konvergens nødvendiggør udviklingen af en fælles netarkitektur model for det samlede telenet. En model, der er i stand til at rumme de specifikke krav til infrastruktur, som de enkelte tjenester i kraft af deres natur stiller til performance, kapacitet, sikkerhed

De meget store forskelle i de enkelte serviceformers vækst og dermed løbende andel af de enkelte typer af kapacitetsbehov vanskeliggør en optimal udviklingsplan for infrastrukturen.
