MYTH

I need a four-year college degree to get a job.

NO! Labor market statistics show 65% of the top jobs require more

than a high school diploma but less than a four-year college degree.

80% of today’s jobs require a technical education. Hmmm . . .

What is accreditation? The goal of accreditation is

to ensure that the education provided by they institu-

tions of higher education meets acceptable levels of

quality… in other words you may not be able to transfer credits.

Four year colleges want students to have both a broad

based education and an education in a specific subject

area. Most of these institutions require students to take 25-50% of their classes in general education. A major doesn’t have to be declared until

the students’ 3rd year.

Students who wish to attend a four-year college immediately after high school should

1. Take as many college preparatory classes as possible, which include 2 foreign languages in the same language.

2. Take the PSAT, ACT or SAT in their Junior year

3. Tell your guidance counselor or career specialist to help with your decisions and help you make the right choice.

4. STUDY and build your testing skills to make things easier for your college experience!

Four Year

Colleges

Dual-enrollment is a way for Juniors and Seniors to

earn college credit while in high school.

St. Johns River State College

Ever wonder how community colleges work?

Community colleges provide affordable (about half the price of a 4-year

college), career oriented programs that enable students to begin a career

after one or two years of study. A community college can help you begin

your college experience to continue at a 4 year college while working

with a 2 year AS degree or college credit certificate, making more

money.

One-Year Programs allow the students to specialize in a

specific area. He/she receives a certificate or diploma.

Then there are two-year specialized programs after which he/she will

receive an AS (Associate in Science) degree in the area of study or

Students complete the first half of a four-year degree, earning an

AA (Associate in Art or also known as a Transfer

Degree). They will then transfer to a four-year college to take the

last two years of study—in their major—criminology, teaching,

accounting, pre-law, etc. to receive their Bachelor’s degree.

Now you know!

SJRSC has campuses in

St. Augustine, Palatka and Orange Park. Some of the programs offered are

Business Administration and Management

Criminal Justice Technology

Emergency Medical Service/Paramedic

Computer Programming and Applications

Marketing

Health Management/Nursing

Radiologic Technology

Respiratory Therapy

SJRSC has a working agreement with St. Leo College in the following areas

Criminology

Elementary Education

Health Care Administration

Business Administration
