The 2nd Departmental Faculty Board Meeting of 2016-17 was held on 29th August 2016 at 4 pm in the Departmental Committee Room (I-230). The following members were present: 1. Confirmation of minutes of 1st DFB meeting (2016-17). The minutes of the 1st DFB meeting (2016-17) were confirmed as circulated, with the following change for Item No. 5. Item No. 5 (BAP minutes item no. 10 and 12) to be read as “The board agreed to the proposed changes about the maximum duration for completion of comprehensive examination requirements and pre-PhD coursework as per the details mentioned in the BAP minutes circulated earlier” Item No. 2. Item No. 5 Non-graded design credits
The board decided to revisit the requirements of non-credit course in a separate meeting of the Department’s Curriculum Review and Development Committee.
Item No. 5 UG students’ The board decided that UG students
request to intern in non-core areas
who want to work in non-core areas, and are not seeking credit for the same, should be allowed to do so.

The HOD presented the current status of funds available under different budget heads sanctioned by the Institute as well as funds available from the sponsoring funding agencies to the Department: Sl. Budget Head Details Remarks 1 NPN05 Existing policy of Rs. 1 Lac per
faculty member would continue until additional DBT-HRD funds are sanctioned.
2 PLN03-C Priority would be given to items required for teaching lab courses. Decision on allocation of funds to different items would be taken after these requirements are finalized.
A PFC for Spectrofluorimeter (~ Rs. 15 lacs) has already been formed by the ex-HOD Prof. P. Mishra, and the instrument will be housed in the M.Tech Teaching Lab.
Some members raised issues with purchase of HPLC columns, initiated by the ex-HOD Prof. P. Mishra, under PLN03-C.
3 PLN03-F Purchase of a Computer and Printer for the HOD’s office is to be initiated immediately.
4 DDF 5 DBT-HRD The actual available balance and
the figures shown in the submitted UC/SE’s to DBT is being studied, for further processing.
6 DST-FIST The sanction order from DST was discussed and allocation of funds for the following items were noted: i) Flow Cytometer - Rs. 90 lacs ii) LC/MS/ System - Rs 150 lacs iii) Refurbishing of existing
fermenters – Rs.18 lacs iv) General Components: Rs. 25
lacs
The ex-HOD Prof. P. Mishra informed the following – Allocation of funds for individual
items was made by DST on their own without consultation with the department.
PFCs for different items have already been constituted by him
The statement of expenses and available balance as on date in the above budgets are provided in Annexure – I. The allocation of funds for all future purchases in the different budget heads would be decided by the board in its next meeting. Item No. 5. Discussion of space issues. The Head informed the board about the decision of ECS meeting (dated February 24, 2016,) allocating rooms I-129 and I-336 to the DBT Centre of Excellence in Biopharmaceutical Technology, Department of Chemical Engineering. The Head showed the previous HOD, Prof. Prashant Mishra’s reply (dated May 13, 2016) stating that average space per faculty is 1764 sq. ft. for the department compared to the 2300 sq. ft. mentioned in the ECS minutes. The Head also showed a letter from the office of the DD (S&P) (dated August 8, 2016) which states “All the Departments/centres who have been allocated space earlier should now take possession of the same and work with Eltate Office for its renovation.” (refer Annexure – II). The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to all members.
