Department 10 – 4-H AND VOCATIONAL

Due to Penn State Extension regulations for 4-H members in 2020, all 4-H members must exhibit in Department 11 with the same classes and premiums as listed in Department 10.

ELIGIBILITY

4-H Club Members must have passed their eighth birthday but not have passed their nineteenth birthday by January 1, of the year of the fair. Exhibitors must be members of a regularly organized 4-H Club, carrying a project in the field they wish to make and be under the supervision of the Pennsylvania State University Agricultural and Home Economics Extension Service by July 1 preceding the fair. Exhibits must have been selected through an elimination.Students enrolled in an accepted vocational school curriculum must be conducting a project in the class in which they wish to make an entry. Students enrolled in general home economics in a comprehensive high school are considered as qualifying. RULES1. ELIGIBILITY – Any boy or girl who is a member in good standing of a chartered FFA Chapter and who resides in and has raised his or her steer as an FFA SAE project in Solanco School District or Oxford School District or who is a member in good standing of the Lancaster County 4-H Beef Club and resides in Solanco or Octorara School District is eligible to compete in the show and participate in the sale. Exhibitors must have passed their 8th birthday but not have passed their 19th birthday by January 1 of the year of the fair. In the event the individual does not complete high school, he or she may not exhibit past their 18th birthday.2. REGISTRATION AND OWNERSHIP – Each member must have entire charge and care of his or her animal. All animals must be on feed by the owner by January 1.All animals will attend a mandatory registration meeting in late January or early February (date and time will be announced by committee) at which time their animals will be weighed and tagged in preparation for the show.3. FITTING AND PREPARATION OF ANIMAL – The intention of the FFA or 4-H Steer project is to provide young people with an educational experience raising their steer. For this reason,onlytheexhibitorwillbepermittedtoclip/fithisorhersteeronthefairgrounds Iftheexhibitorisundertheageof14asofJanuary1theyearofthefair,heorshemay haveassistancefromanimmediatefamilymember.Failuretoabidebythisrulewillresult indisqualificationfromtheshowandlastplacinginthesaleorder.

4. ANIMALBEHAVIOR-Entries must be halter broken and under the complete control of the exhibitor (cattle must be able to be tied, paraded, and shown without endangering others). The beef show committee reserves the right to dismiss from the show any animal that may endanger other show participants. If an animal escapes from the exhibitor three times while being exhibited in the show ring, the animal will automatically be dismissed from the ring and will receive the lowest placing in the class.

5. HEALTH – A. In no case shall any animal be admitted that shows evidence of having a communicable disease. B. "A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued after May 1, 2020 is required. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases. An Animal Owner or Caretaker's Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) form must accompany each animal, and must be presented upon arrival at the exhibition. Individual official animal identification is required. Official ID includes: a USDA-issued metal eartag; or a breed registration tattoo if the tattoo is legible and the animal is accompanied by a copy of the registration certificate; or a breed registration eartag if the animal is accompanied by a copy of the registration certificate; or an ISO-compliant 15 digit eartag (including RFID)."

Good Housekeeping Award1. It is the sincere wish of the Solanco Fair Association to maintain livestock areas in a clean,

neat, and safe condition for the enjoyment of Fair patrons, therefore a good housekeeping award has been initiated and will be awarded to the exhibitors best displaying these qualities.

2. Rate of Gain ContestAll market beef exhibitors are automatically entered in the rate of gain contest. Placings are determined by calculating the average weight gained per day by each animal in the time period beginning on the date of the winter round-up (February, date to be announced) and ending on the date of steer check in at the fair (Tuesday afternoon of fair week).The individual whose steer has the highest average rate of gain between those two dates will be recognized as the winner of the event during the Market Beef Show.In the event of a tie, all individuals with the same highest rate of gain will be recognized. The Rate of Gain Contest Award is sponsored by Frey Family Angus.

Solanco School District Residents- Youth that are in good standing with the 4-H Woolies or Market Goat Club or enrolled in FFA with a sheep or goat SAE project may show up to three animals of both species. Example: a youth with a goat project may show two goats and one lamb or a member with a lamb project may show two lambs and one goat. All three animals must be penned together during the fair. Entries must be emailed to both chairpersons. All entries will be entered free of charge.5. All sheep must be entered at the fair grounds by 7 PM on Tuesday evening and remain on the

fair grounds until 10 PM Friday. All lambs will be weighed on the same set of scales on Tuesday between 3-7 PM. Exhibitors must be present at weigh-in.

6. Alllambsmustweighatleast75poundsandbeproperlyfinished.Tailsmustbedockedandmales must be castrated.7. NO MORE THAN 2 LAMBS will be accepted per exhibitor. Two lambs may be sold.8. HEALTH

A. No sheep showing clinical signs of contagious, infectious or external parasitic disease including foot rot and sore mouth will be admitted to the show.

B. AllsheepmustbeidentifiedbyanofficialUSDA/A.P.H.I.S.eartag(scrapietag).C. Theflockoforigin,includingsheepconsignedtotheshow,shallbeexaminedbyanaccredited

veterinarian. Theveterinarianmustpreparetheofficialhealthchart(AAI-13)andmuststateonthehealthcertificatethatheexaminedtheentireflockandfoundnocontagious,infectious,or external parasite disease and has been known not to be exposed to scrapie. The date of the examinationmustalsoappearonthehealthcertificate.

D. Allexhibitorsmusthaveacompletedandsigned“AnimalOwnerorCaretakersVerificationofVeterinarian – Client – Patient Relationship” form that will be collected at check-in.

9. Anyanimalofunthriftynature,unsuitablefinishandcondition,orwhichcannotbesatisfactorilyhandledunder show conditions must be removed from the fair grounds.

10. Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed and trough and see that his animals are fed and cared for during the fair. Bedding will be provided.

or a member of Pygmy Goat Pride 4-H Club is eligible to participate. Exhibitors may not have passed their nineteenth birthday as of January 1 of the year of the fair.

2. All exhibitors must contact Liz Flahart to obtain an entry form. All entry forms are to be returned by September 1, 2020. No late entries will be accepted.

3. Limit of 4 animals per exhibitor. The show date is used as the base for age in goat classes.4. All animals must be entered on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM.5. AllanimalsmusthaveaCertificateofVeterinaryInspectionissuedafterMay1,2020,freeof

infectious and contagious diseases, and dehorned. Please provide original and one copy of health certificate,copieswillremainatfairgrounds.AnAnimalOwnerorCaretaker'sVerificationofVeterinarian-Client-PatientRelationshipformmustaccompanyeachanimal.Allmicrochipswillbeverifiedduringanimalentry.

6. All exhibitors are required to furnish their own feeding supplies and are required to properly care for all animals during the fair. Bedding is provided.

7. All exhibits are to be removed on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 10 PM. You are required to tear down your own pen and return it to the proper storage area.

8. OpenandregisteredanimalswillshowinthesameclassandwillbejudgedbytheNationalPygmyGoat Association standards.

RULES1. Any boy or girl who is a member in good standing of a chartered FFA Chapter or is a member

of the Lancaster County Market Goat Club and resides in the Solanco School District is eligible to participate. Exhibitors may not have passed their 19th birthday as of January 1 of the year of the fair. In the event the individual does not complete high school, he or she may not exhibit past their 18th birthday.

2. Solanco School District Residents-Youth that are in good standing with the 4-H Woolies or Market Goat Club or enrolled in FFA with a sheep or goat SAE project may show up to three animals of both species. Example: a youth with a goat project may show two goats and one lamb or a member with a lamb project may show two lambs and one goat. All three animals must be penned together during the fair. All animals must be entered with a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection issued after May 1, 2020, must be free of infectious and contagious diseases. An Animal Owner of Caretaker's Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship form must accompany each animal.

3. Each exhibitor must report via email their goat scrapie ID number to Laurie Schmidt and Liz Flahart by June 15th to be eligible to show. Each exhibitor is limited to registering 4 goats.

4. All exhibits must be reported to the committee by September 1, 2020, with animal ID numbers. Entries must be emailed to both chairpersons. All entries will be entered free of charge.

5. All goats must be entered at the fairgrounds by 7 PM on Tuesday evening and remain on the fairgrounds until 10 PM Friday. All goats will be weighed on the same set of scales on Tuesday between 3-7 PM. Exhibitors must be present at weigh-in.

6. No more than 2 goats will be accepted per exhibitor. Two goats may be sold.7. All market goats must be either does or wethers, bucks will NOT be permitted.8. Goats may be dis-budded or horned.9. HEALTH A. No goat showing signs of contagious, infectious, or external parasitic disease including

foot rot and sore mouth will be admitted to the show. B. All goats must be identified by an official USDA/APHIS SCRAPIE TAG. C. The flock of origin, including goats cosigned to the show, shall be examined by an

accredited veterinarian. The veterinarian must prepare the official health chart (AAI-13) and must state on the health certificate that he examined the entire flock and found no contagious, infectious, or external parasite disease and has been known not to be exposed to scrapie. The date of the examination must appear on the health certificate along with

the scrapie tag numbers. D. All exhibitors must have a completed and signed "Animal Owner or Caretakers

Verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship" form that will be collected at check-in.

10. An animal of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition or which cannot be satisfactorily handled under show conditions must be removed from the fair.

Any boy or girl who is a member in good standing of a chartered FFA Chapter or a member of the Lancaster County 4-H Market Goat Club and resides in the Solanco School District is eligible to participate. Exhibitors may not have passed their nineteenth birthday as of January 1 of the year of the fair. In the event the individual does not complete high school, he or she may not exhibit past their eighteenth birthday.

2. All entries must be emailed to Liz Flahart by September 1, 2020. Entry must state the date of birth of the exhibitor, goat ID number, goat date of birth, and class the animal will be shown in. All entries will be entered free of charge.

3. All goats must be entered at the fairgrounds between 3-7 PM on Tuesday and remain on the fairgrounds until 10 PM Friday.

4. Exhibitors are limited to showing 3 breeding does. Breeding goats cannot be shown in the market goat classes and vice-versa. Does over 2 years old, who have not kidded, are not permitted to show.

5. Fullblood, percentage and unregistered does will show together in the same classes. Goats may have horns or be disbudded.

6. Each exhibitor must furnish his/her own feed, trough, and water bucket and see that his/her animal is fed and cared for during the fair.

7. Each exhibitor must be present and have charge of his/her animal at the time of judging. If an exhibitor cannot control their animal, another 4-H or FFA member from Lancaster County may assist them. The owner must be at the head.

8. Exhibitor must have ownership of the goat by August 1, 2020. 9. The age of the goat will be calculated to the date of the show.10. Chairperson reserves the right to adjust classes as deemed necessary by the committee. 11. Identification: A. All goats must be identified by a visible breed registration tattoo and accompanied by registration papers or an official USDA (scrapie) ear tag. The animal’s ID must be included

on the Cert. of Veterinary Inspection. 12. Health: A. No goat showing signs of contagious, infections, or external parasitic disease including

1. Any boy or girl who is a member in good standing of a chartered FFA Chapter or is a member of the Lancaster County Dairy Beef Club and resides in the Solanco School District is eligible to particpate. Exhibitors may not have passed their 19th birthday as of January 1 of the year of the fair. 2. All steers must be born no earlier than January 1st and no later than February 28th. Within two weeks of birth, all entries must be reported to Brad Davis (717-283-5720) to be tagged. Calves not reported by March 14th may be ineligible for show and sale.3. All Holstein steer feeder calf fair entries must be reported to the chairman by September 1, 2020. The chairman may refuse late entries.4. Each member must have entire charge and care of their animal. All steers must be 100% Holstein, castrated, dehorned and purchased by February 28.5. Afterthesale,manyofthesteerfeedercalveswillbemovedtoafinishingfeedoperation.Itis requested that no full body clipping be done on the steer after July 1st.6. Each steer must meet all health requirements as set forth by the PA Department of Agriculture. Allanimalsmusthaveahealthcertificatesignedbyanaccreditedveterinarian.Allsteersmust be immunized against IBR and BVD. The most recent vaccine must be administered no less than 15 days or more than 180 days prior to the fair.7. Allexhibitorsmusthaveacompletedandsigned"AnimalOwnerorCaretakersVerificationof Veterinarian-Client-Patient relationship" form that will be collected at check in.8. All animals are to be entered on Tuesday evening from 3 to 5 pm and remain on the fairgrounds until 10 PM Friday evening. 10. Animalsmustberaisedandownedbytheexhibitoratleast70daysbeforethefair.11. Noexhibitormayentermorethan2hogs.12. Any hog under 220 or over 280 lbs. may not be shown.13. EachexhibitormustpresentanexhibitornumberTuesdaynighttobeeligibletoshow.14. Body clipping will not be permitted. Ear and tail clipping are still acceptable.
