DENTON GIRLS FOOTBALL CLUB
Tour to Germany 25th – 28th October, 2014
On our way!
The girls awaiting to depart from Manchester Airport
Jugendherberge Meinerzhagen
Our German Guests
Two girls (Annika and Alisa) who came over with Kierspe Band back in the summer, were so impressed with the English hospitality, and especially Madison’s and Georgia’s family, that they wanted to meet up with us all in Meinerzhagen. Both girls participated on our behalf in the tournament.

Some people found it rather tiring, didn’t they Kate? lol
Denton Girls Player• I went to Germany on the recent twinning trip with under 14s. I have
listed below the best bits:• The hostel we stayed in was great, lots of things to do and lovely and
clean.• The German people were really lovely to us.• The Tournament with the other teams was really well organised and it
was great to play football in another country against the German girls.• Lots of lovely thoughtful things by our German hosts – towels, caps,
Schalke scarf.• Visiting a German school was really good.• I loved visiting Schalke – a Champions League team.• I loved the trips, thanks to all who helped to organise it.
Kate Harvey – coach Under 14’s
• The impact of the trip not only allowed the girls to see and experience a different culture, it increased their self confidence and their trust in one another, which is visible on the pitch. Extremely worthwhile.
Comments from a Denton Girls Player
• We had a brilliant time in Germany.• The food was really nice and so were the staff.• We went swimming at the water park, did a biathlon
and played bowling. Everyone wanted Allen to lose but he is so competitive and ended up winning anyway, and never let up about it for the whole trip.
• We visited the football stadium which was very good and some of went for a walk to the ski slope – very funny to see Kate slip in the mud.
Comments from a Denton Girls Player
• I really enjoyed Germany because it was a great chance for us all to bond and develop as a team.
• Loved staying in youth hostel with all of the team, enjoyed the food.
• Was good to see German School and how different it was from my school, no uniform and not as strict.
• The part I enjoyed the most was the water park with the water slide. I also enjoyed the tournament.
Comments from a Denton parent• We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrive
and nothing was too much trouble for them.• The youth hostel was aqequate for our needs, very clean and tidy
and the food was lovely.• The traditional German pub was amazing, also downstairs in the
cellar, there was a bowling alley which the children really enjoyed.• Visited a couple of churches which was really interesting had a
guided tour. • The swimming pool was good fun with plenty to do.• The football tournament was very well organised, making the
Denton girls feel extremely welcome – snacks and drinks provided during the games and lunch was a take away pizza.
Alisa Knobel - Guest player who lives in Lüdensheid
• It was a great time with you (all) in Meinerzhagen.
• After some problems with language we had a lot of fun, especially football with the girls. They were nice and friendly.
• I have played football for the first time in a team and it was wonderful to win the game (tournament).
Stefan WestermannChairman TüS Grünenbaum
• At the beginning of 2014 I received a surprise phone call from Dorette Vormann-Berg of Kierspe Town Twinning Association about a club from Manchester. This was because Kierspe doesn‘t have a girls football club.
• Our team was new having only played friendlies, but I gave me support to Kierspe.• I met Allen and Nigel at the Kierspe Festival in September and despite being a Schalke fan, my
daughter Aylina and myself took them to a Dortmund match – Schalke were away.• In October we staged the tournament also invited FC Schwelm. We presented gifts to the girls
from Denton and the coaches and provided a lunch after the tournament. We congratulated Denton on winning the tournament.
• Then we went to Plettenberg Water Park for three hours. We had a blast.• On the Monday, Denton Girls visited AFG and took part in an English lesson with a class.• After a snack, my daughter, her two friends and myself accompanied Denton Girls to
Gelsenkirchen for a tour of my beloved Schalke 04. The English tour of the stadium lasted 1 ½ hours then we visited a sausage stand on the way out. The English girls ordered in German. Purchases were made in the Schalke shop, particularly blue and white hats and photos taken.
• On the way home the atmosphere was very lively with singing and laughing together.• After an invitation to visit England next year, we said our goodbyes.• We‘ll see how it goes!• NOTE: Exact words changed by Nigel to fit the presentation. German text available upon
request.

• A wonderful trip and on behalf of the club I can’t thank DTTA and our counterparts in Kierspe for the tremendous support afforded to us. Angelika and her team really did go beyond the call of duty so many times.
• I can highly recommend Meinerzhagen Hostel – so clean, good food, warm showers, everything you need really.
• The German people are wonderful and I have fond memories of our night in the Gasthof zur Schanze when the blokes at the bar invited me over for a drink. Brilliant moment.
• After watching Dortmund during our first stay and visiting the Schalke stadium on this trip, I think I have fallen in love with German football. The presentation of a Schalke shirt bearing my name by Stefan, plus the jacket for Allen and the towels for everyone was very special, and much appreciated. We really need to put on a show when they come over to visit us next year.
• I loved practising my German. It is still awful, but at least I’m making the efforts and will endeavour to continue to improve. Thanks to Helen and others that have helped me along the way.
• My maiden speech in German was nerve wrecking, but so glad I did it. Trouble is, they will expect my next one to be near perfect :/
• I hope the girls on both sides got a lot out of the tour, I certainly hope that friendships will blossom, as it has done with the Beech family and the two girls from Kierspe’s band.
Peter Watt Club Chairman• I had the pleasure of visiting Germany with our under 14’s team.
We all had a great experience from start to finish and both twinning associations should be very proud of how the trip went. In Germany, the twinning association worked really hard to ensure every detail was taken care of.
• The activities the girls took part in were all really enjoyable.• The hostel was set in lovely surroundings, with hills and forests all
round. It was clean, tidy and very comfortable. The meals were lovely and the staff very welcoming.
• We now want to ensure that we do this trip again, perhaps with more age groups in the near future.
• A big thank you to both Denton and Kierspe Twinning Associations for helping to arrange a fantastic trip from start to finish.
