1 DEMENTIA ACTION WEEK 2019 Highlights from the Week Singing for Memory Singing for Memory paid tribute to Doris Day following her passing earlier in the month. Attendees talked about her films and sang some of her best known songs. The highlight of the session however was singing a poem written by Ian McMillan as a tribute to Doris in the tune of one of her most famous songs ‘Secret Love’. Take a listen at https://www.thepoint.org.uk/singing- for-memory-pay-tribute-to-doris-day/ Dementia Information Morning @ DMBC One Stop Shop Seven local services attended an information morning at Doncaster Council One Stop Shop to promote their services and offer advice and information on dementia to members of the public. Making Space Sandalwood Centre Open Day A baking session, making chocolate crispy buns was put on for attendees at the Making Space Open Day. The session was really successful and enjoyed by all! Charity Golf Day The annual Charity Golf Day at Wheatley Golf Club, now in its 17 th year, raised a record breaking £2705 for the local dementia charity DonMentia. Here’s members of Wheatley Golf Club presenting the check to Eileen Harrington founder of dementia. Dementia Celebration Tea Party @ The Earl of Doncaster Around 80 guests were treated to a delicious afternoon tea, accompanied with live entertainment from the excellent performer, Susan St Nicholas which had all the guest singing and dancing. Rob Moore, Managing Director at Home Instead would like to say a huge thank you to all those who sponsored the event; Westfield Health, Keebles, Yorkshire Bank and Little Fish Accountants.

The presentation of the dementia awards took place, recognising those who go above and beyond to support people living with dementia and the families and carers in Doncaster.

Individual Winner: Eileen Harrington Group Runner Up: DonMentia

Individual Runner Up: John Whiting

Group Winner: Aspiring 2 CIC

Group Runner Up: In The Moment Project A special award was given out this year for Special Recognition for Outstanding Continuous Contribution and this was awarded to Mary Beardsley

DonMentia Pop-Up Shop The Pop-up shop at the Martinwells Centre in Edlington Library raised an impressive £105 which will help the charity to continue to support people living with dementia and their carers and improve their quality of life.

Dementia Friendly Cinema – Seven Brides for Seven Brothers @ Doncaster Little Theatre A free showing of the classic musical film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was hosted at Doncaster Little Theatre specifically adapted for those living with dementia. Scones with cream and jam were free all round!
