Madison College Blends Steel Shelving with End Panels

When Madison College (WI) was planning their new library, they decided to use their existing shelving, adding Demco Steel to the perimeter of their stacks for added capacity.

End panels added the unifying element incorporating display, technology and signage.

Demco Steel Features Enhance Flexibility

• Single-faced and double-faced units with either a fl at closed base, or sloped integral base shelf

• Standard units are 36"W, with 30"W available

• Units available in heights ranging from 42" to 90", other heights are available upon request

• 16-gauge, 1-piece welded-steel frames with leveling glides eliminate the need for sway braces

• Base frames have wrap-around brackets for greater stability

• Simply bolt units together — no need for starter/adder confi gurations

• 18-gauge shelves feature triple bends on front and back ends for rigidity

• Shelves adjust in 1" increments

• Powder-coat paint fi nishes in 10 standard colors; 12 additional standards available with an extended 2 week lead time, plus custom and color-matching available

s Double-faced unit with fl at closed-base and fl at shelves. Shown with standard steel canopy top and end panel.

s Double-faced unit with sloped integral-back base and integral-back fl at shelves, with sliding book supports.

Flexible to Fit Into All Spaces

s Mobile Shelving available from 42" to 66"H, with any combination of shelf types. A maximum of two units can be combined for a total width of 72". Units can take on any look with end panels and canopy tops.

s Demco Steel fi ts neatly under windows, beautifully fi nished with veneer canopy tops and end panels.

Intermediate wall fi llers are used to join units when a void occurs.

s The main collection is finished with laminate canopy tops, Centered Silver Reveal Slatwall panels and changeable signage.

The media collection is housed in pull-out browser bins and zig-zag display shelves.

t A feature area in the Teen Space combines hinged periodical shelves, pull-out media browsers and standard flat shelves.

Far Rockaway Branch Library

s Far Rockaway Branch Library in Queens, NY chose Demco Steel Shelving with periodical shelves to create a contemporary display for their magazine

collection. Units were fi nished with standard steel canopy tops and frosted acrylic end panels.

s Using 3D modeling software, the design team can provide realistic views of features and colors, showing libraries in new ways.

The design team at DEMCO Interiors adapts and integrates shelving so it becomes a vital component of an active library space.

Adding in signage, display features, access to technology, and seating transforms “stacks” into inviting areas for discovery.
