La technologie du futur

La technologie du LED est en évolution constante, il ne se passe pas une semaine sans que de nouveaux composants soient proposés aux fabri-cants de dispositifs d’éclairage. La recherche et le développement du sec-teur aboutissent à toujours plus de rendement, c’est à dire moins d’énergie consommée pour plus de lumière restituée et moins de chaleur perdue, mais aussi plus de longévité, plus de précision dans la diffusion lumineuse, plus de stabilité de la couleur dans le temps et une plus grande tolérance aux aléas d’alimentation électrique (surtensions, parasites, courant mal re-dressé).

De plus en plus présents sur les modèles récents de véhicules haut de gamme, les LED s’imposent en offrant de nouvelles signatures visuelles. Si les LED permettent une identification visuelle, ils ne servent pas qu’à l’esthétique, ils offrent d’autres avantages.

Un éclairage plus performant

Les LED diffusent une lumière proche de la lumière naturelle : les contrastes sont plus marqués et les « zones d’ombre » mieux maitrisées, la fatigue oculaire en est considérablement réduite. L’éclairage LED permet d’optimiser précisément le faisceau sur la chaussée ce qui contribue à ne pas éblouir les usagers circulant en contresens, et ce, malgré un éclairage plus intense. Le halo diffus de longue portée des LED permet de mettre en évidence la signalisation routière et les dispositifs rétroréfléchissants des véhicules d’intervention sans pour autant gêner les autres usagers. L’allumage instantanée des LED (2 milliseconde), permet une maitrise de l’éclairage dans des situations d’urgence alors qu’il faut une demi-seconde (500 milliseconde) pour qu’une lampe au xénon s’illumine.

Une signalisation plus sure

Les feux de signalisation à LED permettent un allumage quasi immédiat, 150 fois plus rapide qu’une lampe classique. Le freinage est signalé plus rapidement et l’indication de changement de direction plus dynamique, ce qui attire d’avantage l’attention. De plus, les feux diurnes accentuent la pré-sence en se détachant de l’environnement que ce soit en vision directe ou indirecte par les rétroviseurs. La surface lumineuse des feux de signali-sation, plus homogène, permet une meilleure identification par les autres usagers de la route.

Une économie d’énergie prouvée

La LED est un semi-conducteur qui convertit directement l’énergie élec-trique en énergie lumineuse, 80% de l’énergie électrique est transformée en lumière et 20% en déperdition thermique. À titre de comparaison, une ampoule classique produit 20% de lumière pour 80% en déperdition ther-mique. Du fait de ce rendement supérieur, les LED consomment moins d’énergie pour une restitution de lumière accrue. L’alternateur est donc moins sollicité, et la consommation de carburant moindre. N’est-il pas vrai qu’un moteur tournant au ralenti peut perdre jusqu’à 200 tours par minute lorsque les feux halogène sont allumés ?

Une longévité accrue

Les LED ont une durée de vie plus longue, elles sont quasiment insensibles aux vibrations et ne s’usent pratiquement pas, à l’inverse des filaments des ampoules halogènes classiques. Si elles étaient uniquement alimen-tées par le courant continu d'une batterie, leur durée de vie serait bien supérieure à celle du véhicule, on parle ici de plusieurs dizaines de milliers d’heures de fonctionnement. Dans la pratique, leur durée de vie dépendra de la qualité du courant continu fourni par le système de charge du véhi-cule. Cette longévité simplifie et réduit les coûts liés aux problèmes de trai-tement des déchets et de recyclage, ce qui n’est pas le cas des ampoules classique au gaz.
