CIMdata Observations and Conclusions
Based on our research (3 of 3)
To successfully implement digital manufacturing requires significant planning, effort, resources, and management commitment.
An exceedingly high return on investment, from 5-10 to 1, can be expected from digital manufacturing. It is clear that the technology is solid and substantial benefits can be achieved.• However, a decision to implement is often based more
on corporate vision, strategy, and a commitment by management to further automation of manufacturing operations in order to remain competitive in a worldwide marketplace, than it is on an expected ROI.

Purpose of Simulation Clinic
The purpose of simulation clinic is to bring the benefits of simulation projects and applications available also for SME companies
Per today simulation technology is mostly used by large companies
Simulation clinic engourages small companies to benefit of the results of a simulation project by lowering the barrier to invest in a simulation project
Reasons why SMES do not use simulation
1. Small companies lack resources (IT departments) continuously seek and benchmark for new IT solutions, like simulation software
2. Investment to a simulation project is relativelly much bigger for SME than for a large enterprice
3. IT companies who run simulation projects are focusing in large companies
4. Information on benefits of simulation are mostly carried out by fairly large consultancy companies. Such as Gartner or CIMdata write reports which are expencive and thus for only large companies.
Case Hydnum
SME with > 5 M€ turnoverSupsuplier for large automotive companiesThe aim of simulation SW:
Helps Hydnum better to serve their customers
Makes Hydnum more agile
Not dependent on one contractor only: ability to cope with more different products

Conclusion
Take the change and verify the benefits yourselves:
• Increased throughput: Our customers have achieved up to 40% increase in production throughput.
• Increased utilization of manufacturing resources: non value added work phases have been eliminated which has dropped a down-time from 14 days to 1 day
• The number of manufacturing prototypes has degreased from 27 to 4
• A new production plant was commissioned 90 days ahead of schedule (BNFL).
