Problem• There are many people that have problem with inflammation when
exercising.• Examples include shin splints, arthritis, or muscle soreness.• Many athletes also have a difficult time finding or remembering to ice
after exercise.
Solution• Deflame will have an elastic wrap to provide compression to any area
during exercise to reduce inflammation.• When the consumer is done exercising and wants to ice their muscles
they will be able to chill the wrap; cooling down the muscles and reducing any inflammation.• When the wearer is done icing, he/she will be able to reuse the wraps
again and again.

• Provides compression during exercise.• Provides chilling to decrease muscle
inflammation after exercise.• Reversible chemical process to reuse the
wrap again and again.• Provides maximum surface area contact
on all parts of the body.
How It Works: Overview• The Deflame wrap is trying to invent a process that has not been
invented yet and will change therapy forever.• The Deflame wrap will hopefully use a spontaneous endothermic
redox (reduction oxidation) reaction as this will not require a constant energy source.• If the spontaneous reaction doesn’t work (as there are few
endothermic reactions that are spontaneous) we will use a nonspontaneous redox reaction and attach a battery to the wrap.
How it Works: Spontaneous reactions• Dissolving Ammonium Nitrate: When ammonium nitrate is dissolved in water it is
cold to the touch. If the wraps have tiny veins of ammonium nitrate in them then the wearer will just have to add water onto the wrap or directly into these veins to create a chilling effect. To reverse this affect the wearer will just have to evaporate the water out of the wraps. This will allow them to be used repeatedly.• Barium Hydroxide and Ammonium Thiocyanate: These are two solids that create
an endothermic reaction when they make contact. The wrap could have thin veins of this side-by-side. When the wearer needs to chill the wrap they could press a button to remove a barrier between them, thus starting the reaction. The problem with this is that the products are liquid and gas which would make it hard to reverse the reaction.
Dissolving Ammonium Nitrate
How it Works: Nonspontaneous Reactions• This option will be second to Spontaneous reactions as they will require a
battery. Ideas for this include:• Forming a cation from an atom in the gas phase.• Separating ion pairs.
• making an anhydrous salt from a hydrate.• reaction of barium hydroxide octahydrate crystals with dry ammonium chloride.• reaction of thionyl chloride (SOCl2) with cobalt(II) sulfate heptahydrate.
(Reversible)• Barium hydroxide octahydrate and ammonium thiocyanate is energetically
endothermic. (Reversible)
How it Works: Battery• The wearer will wear the wrap during exercise just like the typical
wrap we see today.• When the wearer needs the wrap chilled, they may attach a battery to
the wrap with the provided strap-on battery pocket similar to a running phone pouch worn today on the arm by runners.• The batter will provide continuous energy to fuel the nonspontaneous
endothermic redox reaction.

Support• Many of these ideas will still have to be tested and they will all have
to be evaluated for practicality.• We have connections to the University of Utah and our High School
chemistry lab for testing.• We also have connections with the company Morpho in China; a
company that would help us with research and the manufacturing of the product. They would make sure that this idea happens as it will be a game-changer in the world of physical therapy.• mrg.com
Target Audience• This product is intended for all athletes but appeals specifically to
college students who over train and to older athletes who have arthritis or other inflammatory problems.• Physical Therapists would also benefit greatly from this product.• This product will impact thousands of people and reduce injury and
pain a lot. It will revolutionize physical therapy and RICE technique.• We will sell 1,000 to local adult athletes, colleges, and physical
therapists.
Expansion• As we grow as a company we will add a heating feature to these
wraps as well to help with the warm-up process to decrease muscles strains while exercising.
Conclusion• Deflame wrap is a new technology that will need further research to
perfect and bring to market but using a spontaneous endothermic redox reaction like dissolving ammonium nitrate should work in theory. We have a good support system to make sure the product is developed.• When it comes to market, Deflame wrap will revolutionize the world
of physical therapy and athletics as a whole.
