Definition of Custom

• A custom is a ritual, belief or object passed down within a society, still maintained in the present, with origins in the past. In other word it’s called tradition.

Definition of Taboos

• A taboo is a strong social prohibition (or ban) relating to any area of human activity or social custom that is sacred and/or forbidden based on moral judgment, religious beliefs and or scientific consensus.

TaboosMarriage• Brides and grooms are not encouraged to attend the

• Words that are not polite and not encouraged to mean bad New Year celebrations for Chinese. Such as, the word death, ghosts, or talk dirty during festival. Chinese believe that this will bring bad luck throughout the year.

• Chinese people avoid wearing black when celebrating a festival in assuming thatcolor will bring bad luck for the Chinese.

During Pregnancy

• Do not eat rabbit meatIf you eat, the baby is born will have a lip in rabbits.

• Do not eat dog meat.If you eat, the baby will like to bite people, especially when the time of breastfeeding.

• Do not eat crab.Then the baby does not keep producing saliva.

• Do not eat foods that are cold like ice-cream, watermelon.Likelihood lead to miscarriages.

• Do not take nail clippers or tweezersBabies born will have a disability.

• Do not raise hands above shoulder level.Mother is not easy to balance herself.

• Do not hanging clothes.Supposedly will lead to miscarriages.
