Do you remember when…

Radio was the newest form of communication?

TV first appeared and everything was black and white?

Colour first arrived to our living room sets?

You bought your first pager or mobile phone.

What are we looking at as educators?

The reality is that learners today are growing up in a multi-media environment.

Learners can broaden their knowledge through the use of technology.

Our role as educators…

It is, indeed, our responsibility to meaningfully integrate technology into our classrooms.

The question that we ask ourselves is, to what extent is technology useful and how should it be properly used?

How can we “scaffold” activities integrating technology so that students can maximize their learning?

What needs to be done…

Learning about technology should begin at an early stage.

Educators must be taught how to teach technology—how to integrate it into a well balanced program in which all subjects infuse technology.

Technology can no longer be viewed as a separate subject now, it is part of every class!

• Technology, 'it's not what it is, it's what you do with it.‘

• Not all teachers wish to create their own material, but if you have the time and even basic skills, the sky's the limit.

An important note for teachers

If used incorrectly, all technology will do is add some more colour to that which is traditional.

Used appropriately, technology will foster interactive approaches to learning & promote higher order thinking amongst students.

So let’s get to work teachers! The sky truly is your limit!

The sky is the limit!

1. Skype for synchronous online tutoring

One of the great things about Skype, apart from the reliability, is that it keeps developing and adding new features. The addition of video messages enables it to be used as an asynchronous tool, will really help to widen its scope for use as a language development tool.

To recap

Audioboo is a tool to record, upload and share audio.

You can easily share audio on Facebook, Twitter and other platforms, embed playlists onto sites, and use their mobile apps and widgets as listen again players.
