    DDR message:

    Drugs will

destroy your lifeApproximately 40 cadets, officers

and parents gained insights into the ef-

fects of various drugs during an over-

view presented in November as part of

    Deer Valley Composite Squadron 302s

    ongoing Drug Demand Reduction

    (DDR) program.

Presented by SSgt. Jeffrey Burch, whopresents to various groups as part of the

Air National Guard of Arizonas DDRprogram, the overview examined the dan-gers of drug use, the warning signs ofdrug involvement, intervention procedures and assistance, and how to remain drug-free. Drugs rangefrom caffeine, alcohol and tobacco to recreational substances and other illegal substances were dis-cussed.

Officer Mike Matteson, the squadrons newly appointed DDR officer, says the overview pro-vided valuable information that both cadets and parents need to know because he has seen the effectsof drug usage.

I had a friend who went down that road, Officer Matteson says. He was quite well off but be-came involved with crystal meth and lost his family, his kids and his job in 18 months.

Drugs will destroy yourlife. If any of the cadets everwant to go into the militaryand they have any type ofprior drug abuse, then themilitary wont touch them.

The overview followed theobservance of National RedRibbon Week, when studentsand members of various com-munity organizations includ-ing the Civil Air Patrol dem-onstrate a personal commit-ment to a drug-free lifestyle.
