April 26th was a beautiful day to ride for a reason! Motorcycle enthusiasts participated in the second Annual ‘Ride for a Reason’ benefit held at Riegelwood Federal

Credit Union. This year, 45 bikes and 63 riders came out to support the Families First Domestic Violence Shelter which is located in Whiteville, NC. Onlookers said the riders were styling as they took off in their new purple ‘Ride for a Reason’ t-shirts. Kick stands up at 10am was the beginning of a nice day riding through the country to Whiteville, NC. Although the pre-planned route towards Whiteville was detoured due to road construction, destinations were still easily reached including visiting the Whiteville credit union branch and Families First, Inc business office.

The route ended back at RFCU. A tasty BBQ luncheon was cooked and prepared by Eddie Morgan. Eddie is a long

time member of RFCU and enjoys donating back to his community. Many raffle prizes were awarded after lunch. The event ended at 1:30 pm. A big thank you goes out to

Riegelwood Federal Credit Union is still financially sound. As communicated to members at our annual meeting in March, the credit union has grown to more than $101 million in assets while serving more than 11,000 members.

A special ‘thank you’ goes out to our members for their patience and support during the credit union’s recent computer data processing conversion. Many months of behind the scenes preparation led up to the planned conversion date of May 1, 2014. We were able to open the credit union in a timely manner on Friday, May 2.

Of course the credit union staff underwent extensive training prior to the computer transition and even today continues to learn new ways to streamline their work to further expedite your transactions.

During April Youth Month, we were delighted to open 53 new youth accounts. Many fun and exciting incentives were awarded to the more than 215 youth members during the month of April. The White Lake Water Park Party was a big hit as well. We will continue to look for new and exciting ways to keep the young savers excited about saving money

and spending it wisely.

Adult credit union and community members rode in the 2nd Annual Ride for a Reason Motorcycle Ride raising more than $1500. Proceeds support the Families First Domestic Violence Shelter in Columbus County. Thank you to the riders that came out to support such a great cause. This year’s proceeds will be specifically used to refurbish the playground area of the shelter.

The youth club mascot Buck made his first live appearance at Farm Days in Lake Waccamaw during the month of March. Buck shared his Buck Club information and was a hit with all the kids.

Since March, Buck has planned April Youth Month Activities, Carowinds Sweepstakes, and a great water park party. He has been a busy little dog.

The Buck Club now has more than 1,100 members and steadily growing. Buck encourages all his buddies to learn the difference between a credit union and a bank. Most importantly, Buck wants you to learn the concept of saving money while getting really cool prizes just for saving.

Buck Club members may be your children, grandchildren,

foster children or adopted children. Buck wishes for all his buddies to get the real credit union experience by visiting the credit union to make their own deposits when they can while growing their savings in the process.

Fraud and identity theft are the biggest reasons to update your address on the form provided below with a valid signature. Many members have expressed frustration recently about the Riegelwood ATM machine frequently being out of order. We have good news to share! Our Leland branch ATM has been upgraded and the Riegelwood location ATM should be under construction by the time you get this newsletter.

The Riegelwood branch ATM has been moved to fit inside the brick wall of the credit union. The current active drive thru window will be the lane in which you will drive through to access the new ATM. The former 2nd drive thru with the tube will be your destination for communicating with a live teller.
