Parish Name: Christ KingCity and State: Wauwatosa, WIYour Name: Maggie PerniceSpecial Notes: To emphasize a theme of God’s boundless love and the promise and hope of “good things to come” we have been using a sort of “della robbia” theme for Advent—our wreath (though you can’t tell from the photo—is large Marklin floor-standing wreath that stands on a dais at the center crossway of our church. Violet banners are hung in church—front, back, and sides—in a sort of cruciform arrangement. 6

Parish Name: Christ KingCity and State: Wauwatosa, WIYour Name: Maggie PerniceSpecial Notes: Christmas environment was red and large creche was located in sanctuary. A few years ago, moved creche to a side alcove (and lived to tell about it!!) and completely altered environment design and color scheme to white & gold 34
Parish Name: Christ KingCity and State: Wauwatosa, WIYour Name: Maggie PerniceSpecial Notes: A portion of the large creche that we moved from the sanctuary into a side alcove. Ignoring the large rock that was misplaced at the time this photo was taken, people can walk into alcove and be surrounded by scene. (To get an idea of scale, the donkey is about the same size as my German Shorthaired Pointer.)

Parish Name: Christ KingCity and State: Wauwatosa, WIYour Name: Maggie PerniceSpecial Notes: Easter detail—we’re still tweaking this design but we think we like these colors. We (like many other churches) employ barren rocks in our Lenten environment—a Easter, they burst into bloom and with the help of a strategically placed fountain near the font (in years when the Elect are baptized at the Vigil, we replace the fountain with a small garden pool—which also has a fountain) water also flows from the rocks. 94

Parish Name: Christ KingCity and State: Wauwatosa, WIYour Name: Maggie PerniceSpecial Notes: an example of environment for our patronal feast day. Complete design (I DON’T have a picture of this) features lots of gold, burgundy panels. Christ enthroned in glory on the only throne he ever claimed (the cross), intentionally NO flowers or plants used to decorate on this day: candles and stars, and (present in the architecture of the church) “perfected” images of creation (Corinthian capitals of columns, decorative gold garland surrounding walls, floral brackets) are our nod to the eschatological tone of the celebration. 118
