Comprehension means understanding. The answers to some questions are easy to find, while the answers to others are more difficult to work out. The best way to understand a text is to ask yourself questions as you read it.

Comprehension Toolkit Knowing what information is relevant to the topic of a text helps you to understand the text. In a group of fruit, the battery is the odd one out. It is not relevant to the group. Which item does not belong in this group?

Comprehension Toolkit Which sentence is not relevant to this paragraph? Recycling is good for the environment. It helps to reduce the amount of waste we make. If we recycle paper, it means we chop down fewer trees. A tree is a plant with a tall, woody trunk. Recycling cans reduces the amount of energy we need to make new cans. This is the topic sentence.
