Market Beef Weigh-In — December 20, 8AM, DeWitt Vet

MISSION STATEMENT

Empower youth to reach their full potential through youth adult

partnerships and research-based experiences.

Clinton County Fair and Iowa State Fair market beef must be weighed and ear tagged. Returning bucket calves are to be brought to the weigh-in if you plan to show them in a market class at the 2015 Clinton County Fair. There is a $1.00 ear tag fee per animal. State Fair animals will be weighed, ear tagged, and identified by retinal imaging. There is a $5.00 fee per animal nominated for State Fair. Ak-Sar-Ben animals will be weighed, ear tagged (USDA tag), and have a DNA hair sample taken. There is a $5.00 fee per animal nominated for Ak-Sar-Ben. If your animal will be shown in a breed class, you must bring all of your breed information with you to the weigh-in. This includes the tattoo number, sire name, and the sire registration number. This information is required even if you do not yet have registration papers. If you purchased your animal, the person you bought it from should have that information. If you weigh-in a heifer as a market heifer, you have until May 15 to switch it to a breeding heifer; however, the same animal cannot be identified as both a market and breeding animal.

Beef weigh-in for market beef projects will take place on December 20 starting at 8:00 a.m. at the DeWitt Vet Clinic. Once again, we have established time slots for clubs, to keep the wait time at a minimum. 8:00 a.m. -DeWitt Hustlers, Mohawk/Minnehaha, DeWitt FFA 9:00 a.m. - Northeast FFA, Goose Lake Jr. Feeders 10:00 a.m.- Cal-Wheat FFA, CW Jr. Ag, Wapsi Valley 11:00 a.m.- Orange Future Leaders, Delmar Hot Shots, Equine Fever 12:00 p.m.- Charlotte Jr. Producers, Welton Jr. Farmers 1:00 p.m. - Iowanna, Iowanna Jrs

rch-based experiences.

There will be three age divisions: Junior (5 player team), Intermediate (6 player team), and Senior (7 player team). ** Any club that has members wishing to play, but not enough numbers for a team may submit names to the Extension Office, where they will be placed on a team. All team members must be 4-H members. Prizes will be given to overall division champs and for team costumes—Coolest, Scariest, and Funniest are encouraged. All team members must dress appropriately or will be asked to change. Entry forms may be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/news/4-h-dodgeball-tournament-hosted-clinton-county-youth-council

Those who wish to watch and are not playing in the tournament will be charged $1.00 door at the door. Kids ages 5 and under are free. Concessions will be available.

4-H After School Programs Crime Scene Exploration (Grades 6-8)

Youth will look at a variety of evidence including fingerprints, blood drops, soil, and white powders. In these activities, they need to compare and contrast the suspect samples with the mystery sample. Through close observation, youth will be able to distinguish clues that, at first glance, appear the same. Youth will also develop critical thinking skills as they consider how reliable eyewitness testimony actually is. Youth will have a chance to be eyewitnesses themselves and test their ability to remember details. This program also strengthens the learners’ measurement skills. Measuring for a purpose, such as solving a crime, enables the learners to develop a skill while doing something that they find meaningful. Where and When: This program will meet at the Ericksen Center in Clinton during the 2014/2015 school year: 01/13, 01/20, 01/27, 02/03, 02/10, 02/17, 02/24, & 03/03. All meetings will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm. The cost of this program is $50.00.

Ricochet 1 (Grades 6-8) Ricochet is an Extreme Leadership Experience!! Ricochet is a program designed for middle school age youth. To Ricochet means to move round – with a lot of energy – and be unpredictable…sort of like middle school youth. Middle school age youth bounce form one thing to the next – trying on different roles – as they find their place in the world. Ricochet uses adventure and experience to bring about learning. Kids will learn by doing things themselves! Youth will build their leadership skill and learn how to get in-volved in their community. Where and When: This program will meet at the Ericksen Center in Clinton during the 2014/2015 school year: 01/15, 01/22, 01/29, 02/05, 02/12, 02/19, 02/26, & 03/05. All meetings will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm. The cost of this program is $30.00. Financial assistance is available upon request for these programs. To fill out a request please visit: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/4h to download the form. All checks should be made out to Clinton County Exten-sion. Registration Deadline: Please return registrations forms to the Extension Office no later than Friday, January 9, 2015. These programs are limited to 15 participants. Please contact Kelli with any questions [email protected] or 563-570-3120.
