Homework: Finish comparative essay outline

Bring BYOT for tomorrow if you plan on typing your rough draft / final paper.

ObjectiveI can evaluate patterns of organization in unfamiliar informational texts for the

purposes of comparing and contrasting texts.

Warm Up: Take out your completed Venn Diagram.

In your notes, write a paragraph in which you select one of the articles (write out the article name and author) and explain in 5-7 sentences why you would select this article to appear in

your newspaper over the other.

"Victims of Bullying Live with the Consequences" by Karen Kaplan

"Bullying in Schools" by Ron Banks

Let's take a look at these two articles...

You are a newspaper editor in charge of deciding which articles pertaining to bullying will appear in the local paper. To do this, you must analyze how different writers present information on the topic. Compare and contrast one writer’s presentation of the topic to that of the other. Pay close attention to each author’s use of text structure and elaboration techniques. Identify the central idea of each text and the ways they were developed. Write a comparative essay explaining how each writer used text structure and elaboration techniques to develop their central ideas.
