Can you believe it? December has arrived, signaling the end of 2018 and the

beginning of the gift shopping marathon for Hanukkah (December 2-10) and

Christmas (December 25). Hopefully, you will be able to find some gift ideas in

this newsletter. For those who observe Kwanzaa (December 26-January 1), the

internet is full of ideas for hand-made gifts that will honor your heritage and the

principles of Kwanzaa. But as we know, gifts are only a part of the holiday season.

Spending time with family and friends and observing religious, cultural and

familial traditions are what make this time of year so special.

Even though Texas is blessed with mostly mild winters, we still like to enjoy a

few cold-weather activities – like ice skating. Did you know there are multiple

locations in our major cities where you can slip on a pair of boots with a thin

blade and hit (sometimes literally) the ice? Put on the scarves and mittens and

head to the man-made ice rinks in Austin, Dallas and even balmy Houston.

Another fun holiday tradition is the search for a real Christmas tree. If you

The Terrace will kick off a holiday food drive on December 3 tobenefit the Central Texas Food Bank. Please drop off cannedgoods and non-perishable items in the bins, which will be located in each building’s lobby. The Central Texas FoodBank provides hunger relief with the help of partner agencies in 21 counties across Central Texas. Suggested non-

perishable items that are needed the most include peanut butter, canned chicken or tuna, canned low sodium vegetables, canned fruit in its own juice (no sugar added), dried beans, brown rice, non-fat dry milk powder and 100% whole grain cereal. If donating items from your own pantry, kindly check the expiration dates.
