I was reminded of our charter as I viewed the preparation for the assembly and the assembly itself. Our charter states in part, “Taking advantage of the school’s location and staff talents, emphasis will be in the area of Careers, Citizenship, Community and Character, which we will call the ‘Four Cornerstone School.’” The assembly may have been part of Derek’s senior project, but it was successful due to the help of his friends and classmates. Students exhibited their sense of community by volunteering to help in whatever way needed, whether it be leading the crowd in a cheer or welcoming veterans to breakfast. From the Lafayette County C-1 School District website, “Demonstrating good citizenship is being a person who is involved in trying to make the community, nation, or world a better place.” Our students were able to say thank you for their service to the great citizens of our community who have or are serving in our armed forces. Once again, thank you veterans for serving and thank you for providing an example for our students through your service. In closing, I would be remiss if I did not address the upcoming holidays. I don’t think I can say it better than Bob Hope, “My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” I hope you all have a great Christmas! Take time to enjoy the season and the opportunity to create lasting memories with your family and friends.

The Four Cornerstone SchoolI realize when you read this we will be approaching the winter holidays. However, as I write, we just held our annual Veterans Day Assembly. This year’s assembly was organized by senior, Derek Thompson as part of his senior project.

Take time to enjoy the season and the opportunity to create lasting

memories with your family and friends.

FFA NEWSBy Chloe Birkmaier, Chapter Reporter

Hello Everyone! I hope you all are enjoying Fall as much as our chapter members are! This October was a fun-filled month, and definitely one to remember. We hope that November will be no different!

On October 8-9, Imbler rituals teams attended the Eastern Oregon District Leadership Camp where they put their speaking skills to work for competition. The advanced team placed third while the Greenhand team placed first.

On October 20, at the Imbler home football game, the drawing for the hog raffle tickets took place. Four lucky winners were able to take home half of a hog, and we as FFA members are extremely thankful to all individuals who supported us through purchasing tickets. Money raised through these ticket sales will go to help members attend conventions, camps, other FFA related trips, and to purchase FFA gear.

On October 23, about 15 members packed their bags and headed to Indianapolis, Indiana for the 2017 National Convention and Expo! Despite the 2:00 AM leave time from the Imbler ag building, members had a wonderful trip and made some everlasting memories. Katelyn Stirewalt, J.W. Dippold, Nate Bingaman, Kylie Barry, Sydney Treat, and Chloe Birkmaier made up the agricultural issues team who had the privilege to compete at the national convention. The team did great and all members agreed that it was a great experience. While on the trip, members were able to tour the Mammoth Caves, Churchill Downs, and the Kentucky Horse Park- just to name a few.

With the beginning of November came the chapter’s cider and apple sales. This was very successful, as the chapter pressed over 400

gallons of apple cider! Along with that, the Imbler FFA Chapter donated about 15 boxes of fresh apples and pears to our local food bank. Thank you to everyone who has so far supported our cider and apple sales. There is still cider up for grabs, so if you are interested please do not hesitate to swing by the school and pick up a gallon for $6!

November 10 was our chapter’s annual leaf raking day. We had a great turnout, and were able to rake

many people’s yards. Along with that, it was a great community service project for attendees.

The Greenhand Banquet and Dessert was held November 16. Eight brave Greenhand members gave The FFA Creed,

and all members did fantastic. Those who qualified also received their Greenhand pins and chapter pins.

NHS NEWSBy Karrington Troyer, Public Relations Officer

The holiday season is in full swing and our NHS chapter is hard at work organizing events for our chapter! This past month our chapter members decorated a Christmas tree at the annual vendor fair to raise money for our chapter. We have also arranged various Christmas activities for the elementary and high school. One of these activities included our annual ugly sweater contest at the high school along with fun lunchtime activities. We also hosted our chapter Christmas party at the high school.

Coming up in January, we are looking forward to scheduling a high school community service outreach day outside of the high school. We will continue to meet monthly and perform service projects within our school as well.

PAC/BOOSTER NEWSThe fourth Annual “Christmas in November” Vendor Fair was held last month. We were very pleased with the outcome and look forward to this project for many years to come.

Don’t forget to send in your Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels! Anyone can donate Box Tops and Soup Labels at any time. There is a link on the school webpage through the parent links tab where you are able to print collection sheets to tape the Box Top and soup labels to. If you use the sheets, this saves us a lot of time as they are ready to be sent in without being stacked and counted. The next deadline for Box Tops is December 15th so clip, collect, and send them to the school to help us earn money and supplies. If you don’t have a student in school, there is a drop box at the Imbler post office for your convenience. Thank you for your continued support!!

If you would like an easy way to be involved with the school come to the next meeting December 12th at 6:30pm.

RED CROSS PRESENTATIONThere will be a Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Presentation given at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 12th at the Pleasant Grove Grange on Hunter Road.

FBLA NEWSBy Madeline Hale/Publicity Director

American Enterprise DayOur Entrepreneur class recognized American Enterprise Day by going to the elementary and teaching them what it means to be an entrepreneur and starting your own business. We taught them about what an entrepreneur does and how they can be entrepreneurs. The older students learned about the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and how to start up a smart business.

The little seeds we plant are essential to younger minds who will one day be the leaders of our nation. The ideas the elementary students had for starting a business were so creative and we need to encourage them to dream big and to not be afraid to start up something new.

Celebrating Veterans Day On November 9th, Imbler’s K-12 students gathered to honor the veterans of our community. Veterans were treated to a delicious breakfast and then processed to the high school, while the students lined the path and waved flags honoring the special guests. Once in the high school gym, veterans were seated in the center spotlight. Family and friends introduced them, stated their rank , branch of military and the number of years they served. Beautiful music was played by the Imbler Band and a powerful speech was made by Derek Thompson. Derek was in charge of the celebration for his Senior Project. Derek did a fabulous job and left the veterans with smiles on their faces.

Fall FestivalOur annual Fall festival was a huge success this year! Our chapter would like to thank all of our community members that attended the festival this year and helped support our chapter. Some of the activities at the festival included a cake walk, crafts center, and a haunted house with lots of opportunities for the kids to get some candy! We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
