PATRON’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE.
The older we become the faster time moves & even Donald Trump who boasts he can
fix anything even those that don’t require fixing, wouldn't brag to make time stand still.
We can be thankful that apart from a couple of graffiti attacks on our clubroom we have
enjoyed another successful year. Our Biennial Rally shortened from 3 days to 2 days still
turned out to be well enjoyed by those who attended & several of our runs were very
well supported but others were not. One of our problems is that our hard core of mem-
bers are becoming more senior, but we have many younger types who attend the clubs
evening meetings with gusto but are hard to find on many of our outings & working
bees at the clubrooms. We have a good club which I am very proud of so lets keep it on
the improve, make a New Years Resolution to get more involved in 2017. Our Editor is
always on the lookout for short stories for the magazine including jokes or cartoons, we
desire to keep our magazine as interesting as we can so if you can help please do. Our
small band of stationary engine enthusiasts continue to display their engines & skill's at
many events & its well appreciated. Our Annual Dinner which we combine with a run
out of town is very successful & a great way to end one & start another fiscal year. I
thank our committee members who continuously strive to keep PADARC coasting along
& like myself desire to see more newer & younger members get really involved. The
planning is already in motion for next years Vehicle, Engine, Swap meet extravaganza &
your support is required. Should you be driving over the festive season take care & also
remember the Reason for the Season. In signing off on behalf of my wife Norma & I , I
wish you & all your family members a Holy, Happy Christmas & a Prosperous New Year
2017.

December 2016 Crank Talk 4
Hello members,
Another month has flown by, I would firstly like to thank those members who helped out by making their vehicles available for the Trotting Club - Port Pirie One Future TV ad filming last Friday. Six vehicles were required to re en-act the opening night of the trots in 1954. After a ring around, I was able to easily come up with the required vehi-cles. Keep an eye out for the ad on the TV later.
Secondly, I have organised another Guest Speaker to come to our February Meeting. Neil Ellis will give us a talk on his outback 4wd adventure with a slide presentation also. I will also hopefully get Nick later when he is back on his feet.
Finally, I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Remember, there is no Meeting in January, so hope to see you all in February. (Don’t forget the Christmas Party this weekend.)
Andrew.

VVMCCSA 60th Anniversary Rally
On Friday16th in the afternoon I left for Clare on Norman my 1946 Norton Model 18 to attend the 60th Anniversary rally for the veteran and vintage motorcycle club of South Australia. I went via Redhill and Brinkworth and I stayed with fellow mem-bers Kathy and Bill Salter...after settling in I headed for the caravan park which was to be the meeting and registration point. On Saturday morning, I headed back to the caravan park and met some of the entrants. The rally officially started on Saturday afternoon with a welcome and a short ride to Annie's Lane Winery at Watervale. We parked the bikes and chatted looked at the bikes plus the small museum on site total distance was 34kms
Saturday night was a get to know you and informal gathering with a bbq supplied by a local butcher and red and white wines supplied by the Seven Hill's winery
Sunday saw us all gathering again at the caravan park for our run to Spalding; where we had morning tea and then Burra
In Burra, we were to find our own lunch and there were several places we could visit. As the rain clouds were gathering over-head most decided to head back to Clare via Farrell Flat distance travelled was 130kms
Monday, we headed for Blyth where we had morning tea then onto Bute on arrival in Bute I discovered the paint on my prima-ry chain case was bubbling and smoke coming from it and NO clutch
Poor old Norman was loaded onto the backup trailer with BSA for the long trip back to Clare when back in Clare we removed the primary chain case and discovered a bolt had fell out of the pressure plate causing it to rub and heat up and burn out the clutch I rang dad to tell him what had happened.
Tuesday, we were going to Yacka where I was met by Chris McKay who had come for a look on his Can Am then on-to Jamestown for lunch then to the Gladstone Jail. I managed to get a lift with a family from Victoria .it was pouring rain but the heated seats in their car was very much appreciated
In Gladstone, I was met by Mum and Dad with their Ford Falcon and my trailer so I could complete the rally
Wednesday, we went to Mintaro to see Martindale Hall this is where they filmed the school shots for the movie “Picnic at Hanging Rock " then back to Seven Hills winery for some wine tasting and tour of the historic church and winery. the afternoon was free and I spent most of the afternoon at the miniature railway
Thursday was the last day and we went to Kapunda for morning tea then onto Eudunda for lunch and back to Clare I took my trailer to help as one of the recovery trailers then later that night we gathered at the Golf club for the wind-up dinner and fare-wells
Friday Bill and I loaded Norman and then I headed home. There was approximately 90 bikes on the run ranging from 1914 to 1960 it was a great rally and I would like to commend the VVMCCSA for their organisation and especially to Bill and Kathy Salt-er for their hospitality and help for the week.

Report on Bay to Birdwood
I attended this year’s Bay to Birdwood run and I left home on Saturday morning the 24th of September at about 9am.
I arrived at my daughter’s place at about 11.45am and we went out for tea at the Gawler Arms hotel that night to celebrate her birthday, which was the next day the 25th.
On the Sunday Morning I left my daughter’s place at about 8.30am and went and picked up my friend at Hamstead Gardens and we went to Birdwood.
We were going to go on Grand Junction Road off Lower North East Road off Hancock Road, but the road was only open for the Bay to Birdwood entrants, so we went up Hancock Road and got onto North East Road and went that way.
We arrived at Birdwood at about 10.30am and some of the cars had arrived already arrived so I got my camera out and started taking photos.
This year there was a national Packard Rally on and I took photos of 23 Packards from the 1920s to the 1950s and there were at least 30 Packards all parked alongside of each other plus another 10 or so parked around the paddocks there must have been nearly 40 Packards there, I’ve never so many in my life and they came from every state in Australia except Tasmania.
The list of cars is too numerous to mention, but there is always Buicks, Chryslers, Essex’, Morris’, Olds Mobiles, Rolls Royce, Whippetts that I have photos of and there were 3 Lincoln cars there that I rarely see and also a 1959 Edsel from WA.
I took 76 photos of the cars at Birdwood and I started taking photos at about 10.45am and didn’t finish until about 1.30pm. I then had my lunch that my daughter made me and I went into the museum and caught up with my friends and I took some photos of cars in the museum and I also caught up with my daughter and her friend and my granddaughter who went to Birdwood to see the cars.
The judging of the concourse took place at 3pm so we stayed until the winners were announced and the winning car was a 1926 Pontiac Tourer that had entered the concourse 2 years before. We left at about 3.30pm and I dropped my friend off at her house at about 4.30pm and I arrived at my daughter’s place at 5pm.
There was not a lot of people at Birdwood this year as the SANFL grand final was being played, perhaps about 4 – 5 thousand. The weather was alright cloudy with a of sunshine later in the day but no rain.

I left my daughter’s place at 8.30am the next morning and went into Adelaide and I went to Gary Rains-ford’s car showroom at Keswick and had a look at his cars and took some photos of some of them I left at about 10.30am, stopped at Port Wakefield for lunch and got home at about 2pm.
I will go again in 2 years if I am able to. I don’t know which years are the best every 2 years seems better but this year was the best for a long time over 100 cars and all the Packards.

FAIR DEAL
A retired couple return to a Mercedes dealership where the
salesman has just sold the car thy were interested in to a beau-
tiful, leggy blonde in a mini skirt and a halter top.
The old man was visibly upset.
He spoke to the salesman sharply
“Young man, I thought you said you would hold that car ‘til we
raised the $55,000 asking price” said the old man.
“Yet I have just heard you closed that deal for $45,000 to the
lovely young lady there”.
“And if I remember right, you had insisted there was no way you
could discount this model”.
The salesman took a deep breath, cleared his throat and
reached for a large glass of water.
“Well, what can I tell you? She had the cash ready, didn’t need
any financing help, and, Sir, just look at her, how could I resist?”,
replied the grinning salesman sheepishly..
Just then the young woman approached the senior couple and
gave the keys to the old man…
“There you go:, she said “I told you I could get that idiot to low-
er the price…..”
“See you later, Dad, Merry Christmas”.

December 2016 Crank Talk 11
I'm finding it extremely difficult to hear any stories re our membership these days. The
real truth, the whole truth & nothing like the truth seems to evade me. A couple of jokes
landed on my desk I got a smile, you may too.
A senior citizen drove his brand new Holden Senator out of the dealership. Taking off
down the road, he pushed it to 120 kph, enjoying the power of the car .
“Amazing,” he thought as he flew down the freeway, pushing the pedal even more.
Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a highway patrol car, blue lights flashing and siren
blaring.
He floored it to 140 kph, then 180kph, then suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m
too old for this!” and pulled over to await the copper’s arrival.
Pulling in behind him, the copper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the car. He
looked at his watch, then said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can
give me a new reason for speeding – a reason I’ve never before heard – I’ll let you go..”
The old gentleman paused then said, “Thirty three years ago, my wife ran off with a po-
liceman, I thought you were bringing her back.”
“Have a good day, Sir,” replied the copper.
The owner of a golf course on the Gold Coast was confused about paying an invoice, so he
decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help.
He called her into his office and said, “You graduated from the University of Queensland
and I need some help. If I was to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take
off?”
The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, “Everything but my earrings.”
A wife asked her husband:
'What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?'
He looked at her from head to toe and replied:
'I like your sense of humour!'
