2014 Issue #12 NQA #604 www.newtownquiltersguild.org December 2014 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: It is official. We are in the throes of the holiday season. Whatever your holiday is, make it a special one. I know that those sewing machines are revving! Fabrics are bought, quilts are being quilted and binding is being sewn! Pollyanna’s and Secret Santa’s are being selected. Packages are being wrapped and bowed. As I walked around the meeting last month, I listened to people chatting about their upcoming plans, holiday parties, a guild wedding (!), vacations and projects in the making. This guild is alive with activity. Sallie and Elaine put out kits for Philanthropy and by the end of the evening many were gone. We were able to show off a completed quilt top for the raffle quilt 2015! Thank you Donna! The other day Peg Bauman called and told me that she has a wonderful committee pulling together that will finish the quilt and get the tickets going quickly. It is truly amazing how we pull together and get the job done. This is my last newsletter entry as President. It has been a joyful experience. It is a commitment, but I would encourage everyone to try it at least once! This role gives you the opportunity to suggest, guide and execute programs and activities that are important to you. If there is something that you are passionate about and think the guild should be doing differently, sitting by the sidelines and bellyaching will not make the change. You need to get on the board and vote for what you are passionate about. The past two years have been such a blast. The board has been amazing – so energizing and excited to make dynamic changes. The next two years are sure to continue that excitement. I want to thank each of you for your support and encouragement. Here’s to an amazing 2015! Linda Martin-Mills GUILD MEETING – Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 7:30 pm at our new location, The Birches, Newtown, PA. PLEASE NOTE! There is a change in our meeting date to Thursday Dec 18th due to a scheduling conflict with the Birches. We will have our Annual Holiday Party and gift exchange. The NQG board will provide refreshments and a night of fun as we do our annual fun gift exchange. To be part of the always fun gift exchange, purchase a quilt related gift (spending around $15), wrap it beautifully or not so nice as to disguise it's valuable contents! We will also be having a handmade ornament exchange. Bring a handmade ornament and go home with a fellow guild member’s creation. *Please note the new time and new location. Guild members are welcome to arrive for the meeting after 7pm. We will be meeting in the dining room. There is ample parking all around the building. Enter through the main entrance. The address for The Birches is 70 Durham Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Aunt Sukey's Treasures - Quilt Raffle At the last meeting, some of you may have had a preview of the beautiful quilt that we have up for raffle that was donated to Aunt Sukey's Treasures. This wonderful quilt has pretty hand cross-stitched roses in hues of pinks, along with green accents, has green prairie points all around the edge and is hand quilted. It measures approximately 94" x 100". Donations/chances are $1.00 each and the drawing will be held on December 18, 2014 at our annual holiday party/meeting. This would be a perfect holiday gift for someone on your list - or for yourself - to keep warm on these cold wintry nights. Place your entries at the party. Marion Baranosky and Elaine LaPrete
