Page 1: December 2012 LCEF on the Move

December 2012 Dear Friends, Welcome to the final issue of On the Move for 2012. When the calendar reaches December, there is a tendency to ask the question “Where did the year go?” It seems as though time flies and the events of the past year feel like a blur. What I would ask you to do is reflect on the past year and try to remember some significant events that occurred in your life during 2012. It is easy to get distracted by many of the mundane things that happen in our lives, but God also blesses us by presenting us with some significant opportunities as well. These are the things we need to focus on! The ministry of Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) was blessed and challenged significantly during the past year. We have had the opportunity to help quite a number of ministries that are building place and space for ministry. LCEF also provided housing loans and debt consolidation loans that made a significant difference in the lives of many Rostered Church Workers. Numerous congregations utilized LCEF services to help improve the ministry of the local congregation. For all of this, we give all praise and thanks to our great God! At the same time, the economy of our nation continues to experience slow growth, at best, and this is affecting not only individuals, but entities such as churches and schools. I have visited with several churches that continue to delay their plans for expansion of facilities and I am aware of several schools that have not experienced the increase in enrollment that they were anticipating and this could require restructuring of staff or other budget cuts. While these issues give me concern, I also know that our good and gracious LORD is in charge of what will happen and I only ask that we all let HIM lead us in the proper direction. We serve a loving God who has given us all that we need for our physical and spiritual needs. He already knows what the future holds and will not allow us to endure more than we capable of bearing. I would ask that you remember the words of St. Paul to the Romans: “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32 ESV). May that be our guiding principle today and every day. As we end the year 2012, my wish for you and yours is a truly Blessed Christmas celebration and a Joyful New Year! Thank you for your past, present, and future support of the ministry of Lutheran Church Extension Fund. In HIS Service, Dennis Klussman LCEF Vice President

Registration is open for the National Youth Gathering and it is time to get serious about your youth group’s plans! The National Youth Gathering is set for July 1-5, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. As your group raises funds for the event, invest them in an interest-bearing StewardAccount®. During the Gathering, the StewardAccount can be used to pay expenses such as hotel rooms and meals. Prepaid cards for the youth group members may also be ordered, with a set amount, keeping them from carrying cash. LCEF’s staff will be at the Gathering to serve attendees that need to make withdrawals from LCEF investments and redeem traveler’s checks. Call 800-843-5233 or visit lcef.org for more information.

Use LCEF for Youth Gathering Planning

Our prayers continue for the families and church communities impacted by the recent storms and flooding that have affected the East Coast. LCEF is working with rostered church workers and ministries who have been hit hard in these areas. LCEF has begun to offer a special disaster relief loan program that will allow congregations, schools, and church workers to rebuild after the devastation. In addition, LCEF is offering services from its Architects Advisory Committee and Laborers for Christ in the areas of facility redesign, repair, and construction services. LCEF is providing this program so that ministries of our church body can more quickly return their focus to serving the people of their communities and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The program is effective immediately and available to all eligible LCMS organizations and rostered church workers located in natural disaster areas as declared by federal, state or local officials. Once again, your investment in LCEF allows us to reach out and help others who are in need. Thank you for your continued support of LCEF!

As the year ends, we use the season of Advent to prepare ourselves to celebrate the coming of our Savior at Christmas. During the joyful Christmas season, we truly rejoice because of the gift that God has given us in His Son, Jesus Christ. There are so many in these worlds who do not know the true joy of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your investment in Lutheran Church Extension Fund will help support congregations that are sharing this good news. Call 1-800-THE-LCEF (843-5233) or visit www.lcef.org for more information.
