A Meeting of the Governing Body (Board of Management) of Fergusson College
(Autonomous) was convened on Saturday, 29th
of April, 2017, at 11.30 am in the Office of The
Principal, Fergusson College at 3.00 pm.
Following Members attended the meeting:

1. The Chairman welcomed UGC Nominee Dr. Pandit Vidyasagar and State Government
nominee Dr. Sanjay Kaptan to the GB meeting.
2. Dr. Abhay Firodiya conveyed his inability to attend the meeting.
3. Confirmation of minutes of the previous GB meeting held on 13th
of September, 2016.
The minutes of the previous meeting of the Governing Body were read and confirmed.
4. Recommendations of the Academic Council of Fergusson College (Autonomous) were
placed before the Governing Body of FC (A).
Resolved that the recommendations of the Academic Council meeting dated 18.03.2017, listed below,
are hereby accepted and sanctioned and confirmed.

Approval of First Year Syllabi of B.A., B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc. with minor changes as
suggested by the respective Board of Studies.
Some Board of Studies have suggested minor changes in the First Year Syllabi of B.A.,
B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc. without change in the course structure. The Academic Council
approved minor changes in M.Sc. - I Biotechnology, F.Y. B.A. and F.Y. B.Sc.
Mathematics, F.Y. B.Sc. Microbiology and F.Y. B.Voc. Similarly the Academic
Council also approved minor changes in F.Y. B.A. Economics and English.

Approval of Add-On Courses, viz. Introduction to Web Page Designing,
Entrepreneurship Development, Intellectual Property Rights, Facilitation,
Validation and Quality Control, Photography, Geometry for Advanced Learners,
Mathematical Structures for Science students and American Studies.
The above-mentioned Add-On Courses have been approved by the Academic Council
and they will be submitted to the Finance Committee to decide the Fee Structure for the
courses.

Approval for introducing French and German Languages for S.Y. B.Sc. Students on
self-finance basis.
There was a brief presentation by French and German Departments highlighting the
importance of foreign languages for Science students. The Academic Council approved
introduction of French and German Languages for S.Y. B.Sc. Students on self-finance
basis from the Academic Year 2017-2018.

Admission Policy
Procedures related to Admission to Under graduate courses for the
academic year 2017-18
Principles:
1. The highest claim for admission is of merit
2. As a part of selection procedure at entry point, comprehensive uplift and service
to society as well as the norms of social justice should be strictly followed.
3. In order to do justice to people who spend part of their life and allot time and
assets towards the development of society through educational activities the
management needs some say in the admission procedure. This also may be used
for the benefit of meritorious eligible candidates who for some technical reason
are not part of the admission process as well as for the marginal near merit class
Admission procedure for Undergraduate Courses
(All the days mentioned below are excluding Sunday and Public holidays)
1. Please have your AADHAR CARD ready for admission process.
2. You will also need a valid bank account in a nationalized bank. This is essential
in case of refunds of deposits, for scholarships/freeships, for refunds in case of
cancellation of admission etc.
3. The admission process will start after the declaration of results of H.S.C. / 12th
std. by Maharashtra Board.
4. Application forms will be made available online on www.fergusson.edu from
the next day onwards (Day 1).
5. Kindly go through the eligibility criteria for the concerned undergraduate
courses for which you will be applying, in the Circulars section of official web
site of Savitribai Phule Pune University (www.unipune.ac.in).
6. Applicant has to create his/ her account to apply for undergraduate courses.
Also keep ready scanned signature and photograph as per the guidelines
displayed while filling the application form.
7. Single loginId and password is to be used for filling application forms for
multiple undergraduate courses. Upload your signature and photo before
submitting the application form.
8. Application form fee is Rs. 50/- which is to be paid via online payment only
(Using NetBanking, Credit card or debit card only). However, for every
application form the applicant has to pay Rs. 50/- separately via online payment
only.
9. Applicant is requested to keep scanned copies of all the required documents
ready which are required to be uploaded at the time of admission only. Do not
upload any document before admission is confirmed.
List of documents (whichever is applicable) includes:
a. Standard 10th
Marklist
b. Standard 12th
Marklist
c. Domicile Certificate
d. Caste certificate
e. Caste Validity
f. Non-Creamy layer Certificate
g. Gap Certificate
h. Documents required to support claim for Defense/ Physically Challenged
quota.
i. Aadhar Card
j. Bank Account details.
10. Last date of submission of application forms will be the 5th
day from the next
day of declaration of 12th
standard result (Day 1 - Day 5).
11. The list of all candidates who have applied for the undergraduate courses will
be displayed on Day 6 as per merit and relevant category, treated as provisional
merit list.
12. Discrepancies (if any) in the provisional merit list, need to be communicated by
the applicant only through e-mail Id of the concerned department displayed on
www.fergusson.edu. on next day. (Day 7). Telephonic communication will not
be entertained in this regard.
13. Final merit list of all candidates (with discrepancies corrected if any) who have
applied for the undergraduate courses as per merit and relevant category will be
displayed the next day (Day 8). The First merit list of candidates eligible for
admission will also be displayed on the same day (Day 8).
14. The First merit list based admissions will be conducted from Day 10.
Candidates need to be present in the admission hall in the given time slot with
the original necessary documents and total amount of fees be paid in cash.
Candidates need to note that inability to provide necessary documents and/or
late reporting for the admission procedure will make the claim for admission
void.
Candidates who have been allocated seats in the first merit list based admissions
will be given three days for payment of complete fees for the undergraduate
courses including the day of seat allocation (Day 10 to Day 12). Failure to pay
fees in this time period will make the claim on the seat allocated void. Part
payment of fees is strictly not allowed. If the fees are not filled up by the
allotted time period the admission stands automatically cancelled.
15. After the first merit list based admissions has concluded (Day 12), the second
merit list will be displayed on Day 13, if seats remain vacant.
16. The second merit list based admissions will commence on Day 14.
17. Candidates whose names appear in the list of candidates eligible for the second
merit list based admissions should report from Day 14 in the admission hall on
time with the original necessary documents and total amount of fees to be paid
in cash for confirmation of seat allocation and acceptance. Candidates need to
note that inability to provide necessary documents and / or late reporting for the
admission procedure will make the claim for admission void.

Procedures related to Admission to Post graduate courses for the
academic year 2017-18
Principles:

1. A committee is to be formed at the department level which will look into the
admission procedure and will have the following composition:

2. The total number of seats available for M.A./M.Sc. _______________ are ___
and their distribution is as follows:

Total number of merit based seats, Y= 85% of X

1. As per the directives of the Government of Maharashtra candidates belonging to
NTC, NTD and OBC category need to submit non-creamy layer certificate
issued by a competent authority after 31st March of that respective calendar
year.
2. Candidates belonging to SBC category can seek admission in their old caste by
following the necessary rules applicable to that caste.
3. Fee structure will be different for students from the state of Maharashtra and
students from outside Maharashtra where,
Student from the state of Maharashtra: a student who has completed 10th
and 12th
class exam from the state of Maharashtra OR has a Domicile status
certificate of the state of Maharashtra
Student from outside Maharashtra: a student who has completed 10th
or 12th
class exam from outside the state of Maharashtra
4. 3% seats are reserved for Physically handicapped candidates (horizontal Quota
over all categories )
5. 5% seats are reserved for wards of ex/ active servicemen (horizontal Quota over
all categories )
6. Fees for wards of active servicemen who are categorized as Non Maharashtra
candidates will be converted to Maharashtra candidates only if the current
posting is in the state of Maharashtra
Details of the Admission Procedure:
Information about the schedule, venue and timings of the entrance exam for
M.Sc. / M.A. will be displayed on the college’s website www.fergusson.edu as
well the departmental notice board.
1. The admissions to the Post Graduate course (M.Sc./M.A.) will be based on the
Entrance examination conducted by the college separately for all the subjects.
2. The results of the entrance examination are expected to be announced within 10
days from the conduct of the entrance exam.
3. The merit list will be based on:
a. The score obtained in the entrance test (50% weightage)
b. Marks obtained in qualifying examination (B.A./B.Sc ) in the same subject
for which the student is seeking PG admission (50% weightage).
4. In case of students who are from universities other than SPPU, the merit list will
be prepared on the basis of Entrance Exam only.
5. After the declaration of the results of the Entrance examination, the students
will have to upload the marks of B.A./B.Sc. obtained by them. This must be
done within 3 days of declaration of results by SPPU.
6. The merit list of students who qualify for admission to PG programmes will be
displayed in the concerned departments and on the college web-site.
7. Along with the merit list the schedule for provisional admission to M.Sc. / M.A.
will be displayed.
8. A counselling session will be organized in the respective department as per the
dates displayed in the provisional admission schedule. Students should report 15
minutes before the beginning of the counselling session. Otherwise the student
will not be considered for admission.
9. At the time of the counselling session the physical presence of the student or a
person authorized by the student (authority letter necessary) is an absolute must.
Claim for admission due to absence at the counselling session will not be
entertained under any circumstances.
10. Provisional admission does not imply confirmation of admission. Admission
will only be confirmed after the University results for the qualifying
examination are declared and the student fulfils the eligibility criteria for
the respective M.Sc. / M.A. as per the eligibility criteria of S.P.P.U.
11. In case of a tie at the entrance exam marks the rules and regulations laid down
by the Admission Committee will be followed.
12. All students should carry original caste certificate, non-creamy layer certificate,
caste validation certificate, certificate to prove date of birth and original mark
lists of B.A. / B.Sc., 10th
and 12th
Standard examinations at the time of
provisional admission and counselling.
13. A student who accepts the offered provisional admission must to pay Rs. 5000/
immediately by cash paid through challan in the bank or by DD
14. Remaining fees have to be paid within three days of the provisional admission.
Failure to do so within the stipulated time frame will result in the candidate
losing claim over the admission and the Rs. 5000 paid earlier will not be
refunded. The seat will then be allotted to the next eligible candidate.
15. Fees are to be paid in the form of a demand draft in the name of ‘The Principal,
Fergusson College, Pune.’
16. The process will stop as and when all available seats are filled up.
17. In case where the number of candidates appearing for the entrance exam are less
than the number of available seats, the Head of the concerned department, in
consultation with the Principal, FCP will put up a notice regarding the further
procedure to be followed.
Admission through Institution Quota:
Admission through institution quota necessitates an application from the student and
Guardians. The department will assist the central office in admission procedure for the
same.

Eligibility issues and establishment of Lateral Admission Committee.
Students seeking admission to S.Y. B.A., B.Sc. from other colleges / universities was
discussed in the Academic Council. The discussion was done on following points:
(a) The College has adopted Credit system at Undergraduate level under
autonomy.
(b) Under such condition a student who is desirous of seeking admission to
S.Y. B.A., B.Sc. would be eligible / not eligible for admission.
(c) A letter seeking guidance from the University has also been communicated.
Based on the above points, the Academic council decided that, a student can be
admitted from other college provided if; the College is affiliated to Savitribai Phule
Pune University only. In this regard, there will be establishment of ‘Lateral Admission
Committee’ under the chairmanship of Principal. The role of the Committee would be
mapping of courses studied previously by the students, preparing a report and
submitting that case to the University for approval.

Approval of B.Sc. Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Zoology Students,
to be eligible for undertaking M.Sc. Biochemistry Programme.
The Board of Studies in Biochemistry has decided to widen the subjects for eligibility
for students seeking admission to M.Sc. Biochemistry Programme. The Academic
Council approved that students having B.Sc. Biochemistry, Botany, Biotechnology,
Microbiology and Zoology Students will now be eligible for undertaking M.Sc.
Biochemistry Programme.

The Academic Council approved that grades for B.A. and B.Sc. programmes will be
based on the CGPA of three years.

Approval for Academic Audit Format designed by IQAC.
The format of Academic Audit has been presented and discussed in the Head’s Forum
(Arts and Science) and the Academic Council has approved the format for Academic
and Administrative Audit. The Audit will be conducted at the end of each Academic
Year by an External Expert and the Observations of such Audit would be considered as
one of parameter for Quality assessment of the Academic Programmes.

The Academic Council approved that; every Head of the Department will be giving a
brief presentation on academic achievements of the department at the end of each

Resolved that the Examination and Assessment Rules and Regulations as provided in the handbook
of Examinations, Version - 1, prepared by the Board of Examinations, FCP (Autonomous) are
hereby sanctioned and confirmed.
4. Approval of revised Tuition fees
Resolved that the revised fees for carious programmes in Fergusson College (Autonomous), as
recommended by the Finance Committee of Fergusson College (Autonomous) given in the
following table, (Annexure – I) are hereby approved and sanctioned, w.e.f. 2017-18.
{These are approved vide GBR-35/15.03.2017: Resolved, as recommended by Pune Board of
Life Members (PBR-18/14.02.2017) that, the revised fee structure for non-grant courses,
FCP for the academic year 2017-2018 be and is hereby sanctioned as per the details given in
Annexure-I}

5. Approval of fees of non-aided add-on courses
Read the proposal from Board of Studies of Department of Political Science, Fergusson
College (Autonomous), and
Resolved that it be recommended to Governing Body of Deccan Education Society through
Governing Body Fergusson College (Autonomous), that Principal, Fergusson College
(Autonomous) be authorized to charge Rs. 6,600.00 per student as fees for the
Certificate Course in ‘American Studies’ (UG-CinAS) from students of XIIth
from any
Board or any faculty w.e.f. 2017-2018.
Read the proposal from Board of Studies of Department of Biotechnology, Fergusson
College (Autonomous), and
Resolved that it be recommended to Governing Body of Deccan Education Society through
Governing Body Fergusson College (Autonomous), that Principal, Fergusson College
(Autonomous) be authorized to charge Rs. 4,000.00 per student as fees for the
Course in ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ (IPR) from any Science Graduate or Post Graduate
student w.e.f. 2017-2018.

7.a. Foreign language courses be offered to the students of Engineering Colleges. These
courses can be designed by the faculty of FCP and any one interested in learning a foreign
language can enrol.
7.b. Add-on courses may be designed and made available in the field of Energy such as
Solar Panel installation.
7.c. Virtual Classroom facility may be created to train the incumbent faculty.
7.d. Senior and experienced faculty members should train and mentor the junior faculty
members in teaching. A platform be created for this.
