Fourth Sunday of Advent

Dear Parishioners,

A total of 65 miles! That’s roughly the distance from Nazareth to Judea. That means that Mary, in her delicate condition probably spent at least three days trav-elling dusty roads to get to her cousin’s house. (And you thought fighting traffic at the mall was bad!) Mary must be tired and probably grubby, and yet the reunion was clearly a joyful one.

Elizabeth herself is filled with wonder as she greets her cousin. “Hail Mary, full of grace! Blessed are you among women!” And then she tells her that her baby leapt for joy when Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice.

I always thought this is how we should all respond when we hear the greeting of the priest at mass each week. I mean, think about it. John was so excited to be in the presence of Jesus that he was doing summersaults within the womb!

Now, I’m not suggesting cartwheels at the consecration, but maybe if we spent some time really pondering the mystery of the Eucharist, we too would be filled with the same joy that John and Elizabeth knew. Perhaps as we wrap up this sea-son of Advent we can take a few quiet moments in prayer, focus on the manger, and consider what it all means. Emmanuel, God is with us.

Merry Christmas!

PEACEMAKERS

Jesus taught all of us how important it is to forgive those who have hurt us. His best example is His own forgiveness of the men who were crucifying Him to the Cross as they were doing so. In this Advent season we too must look to forgive one another, beginning with our-selves for being less than the person we would like to be. One of the most inspiring forgiveness stories I have heard is that of a South Afri-can woman whose son and husband were murdered simply because they were black. A white officer admitted before a special commission that he had killed a young black man simply because he could. Eight years later he returned to the youth’s home, dragged his father outside, tied him to a tree and incinerated him in front of his wife who was in the audience. Now people who confessed before this Commission to any crimes during the years of white rule, could not be prosecuted for them. Many people objected to this but President Mandela said his country needed mercy, not justice. So in this year of mercy that Pope Francis has initiated we should also focus on forgiveness. The widow was asked what she wanted and she said two things; for the officer to gather her husband’s ashes and bring them to her for burial. Second, since she no longer had a family to shower her love on she wanted this officer to visit her every month so she could shower her love on him. The audience then broke out into singing Amazing Grace. The officer fainted.

Christmas Caroling

Join CFM for its annual Christmas Caroling to elderly or ill parishioners. Meet at 1:45 on Sunday Dec. 20 in the Church parking lot and we will carpool from there. Be sure to bring your jingle bells and Santa hats. We will eat dinner together afterward for those who are available to do so.

World Youth Day pilgrims are 36% towards their goal to see Pope Francis with youth from all over the world in the beautiful country of Poland! The time is now to invest in our young church! Here are some opportunities you can take: 1) Send us thoughts and prayers: [email protected] 2) Make an online donation: http://tinyurl.com/QofAWYD. “I am excited to go to World Youth Day because I am looking forward to strengthening my relationship with God, and to experience being with thousands of other youth who share the same faith as myself from all over the world.” Sarah Choi, Cantor and Youth Ministry Core Team Leader

If anyone would like to contribute monetarily to help defray the cost, that would be greatly appreciated. Please place your checks (notation in the memo (Poinsettias) or cash in a labeled enve-lope in the collection basket on the weekend or bring your dona-tions to the Parish Office. Thank you all for all that you do for our parish home.
