WORD: We Hear God in Scripture & Preaching

1 Corinthians 15:19-26, 51-57...If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. 20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. 21For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; 22for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. 23But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 51Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." 55"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Word of God, word of life. Thanks be to God. Mark 12:26-27...Jesus says: And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the story about the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? 27He is God not of the dead, but of the living.

The Gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Hymn of the Day “Abide with Me” ELW # 629

Abide with me, fast falls the even tide. The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence ev’ry passing hour; what but thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who like thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, oh, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me!

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Prayers As each petition ends with: “God of new life,” please respond: “raise us up.”

MEAL: God Feeds us with the Presence of Jesus

“Remember Me”

On the night he was betrayed, he took the bread. After giving thanks, he broke it and said,

‘This is my body, broken for you, and as you eat it, remember Me. This is my body, broken for you, And as you eat it, remember Me.’

On the night he was betrayed, he took the cup. After giving thanks, he lifted it up.

‘This is my blood, poured out for you, and as you drink it, remember Me.

This is my blood, poured out for you, And as you drink it, remember Me.’

So, we thank you for the wine and for the bread, For we see the life you gave and the blood you shed.

And we remember, your wondrous love. you gave your body, you shed your blood. And we remember, your wondrous love,

you gave your body, you shed your blood.

Communion The body of Christ given for you. The blood of Christ shed for you.

Blessing

Sending Hymn “In This New Moment”

In this new moment we can hear God calling; in this new time, all shall walk together. In this new moment we learn to change what is wrong, though no one is able to do this alone

Chorus: We bid you, come! Enter the circle with all people, Come! Your voice is very important.

We bid you, come! Enter the circle with all people, Come! Your voice is very important. Come!

Do not assume that life is ever easy, for in this world there are deadly forces, And in this life there is pain, destruction, and fear. Let this be the moment to strengthen our ties.

Chorus

There is a loving force that now emerges; a gift of grace binding us together; For it is God who invites each one to the work, to share what we have in the power of love.
