When one has worked their entire life, contributed to SSI and Medicare and cannot live a quality retirement,shame on America. Those who have not contributed to social security should not be getting benefits. Samegoes for banking principles; if you made no deposits into a bank account, you cannot withdraw funds. What Iam referencing is that SSI benefits are given to elderly immigrants who have not contributed a dime. This hasa major negative impact on the system. This must stop. So cut that aspect of the SSI benefit plan.

It was never necessary for President Obama to put social security up for cuts. In fact, we voted for himprecisely because he promised not only to secure social security but to IMPROVE social programs providingeducation and health care to all Americans. I wonder if Mitt Romney, had he been elected, would haveproposed cuts to social security. I doubt he could get away with it. In fact, he lost the election partly becausehe would not stand up totally for social security. I realize President Obama feels he can now do whatever hewants since he will not face re-election; but this was a vital and important promise. His job was to punishthose who caused the economic collapse, regulate wall street, bill those responsible for the collapse, and giverelief to the American people who suffered from the collapse -- lost their homes, pensions, incomes -- allstolen from them. This was Obama's task. What he is proposing is not acceptable and if he goes through withit I doubt I will vote for a Democrat for president again...because the message from this is: they lie to getelected. Cutting social security is not pragmatic. It is not a compromise. It is not fair. It is not right. We allknow that. Even most Republicans don't want it cut. I am shocked and dismayed. Shocked by Obama. Pleasedo all you can to rectify this and live up to the promises made to the hard working American people.

My mother--after working steadily for 60+ years--is now retired and depends on Social Security. Thegroceries and meds she needs don't seem to care about a chained CPI or any CPI. They just keep getting moreexpensive--leaving the CPI in the dust. I think she's earned her benefits and deserves some security in her oldage.
