Gospel: Mark 6: 7-13
Dear Parishioners, I will be away on annual leave, visiting family in Perth from this Tuesday, July 10th until the 22nd, then at a conference from July 23rd until the 27th. Fr Bavin Clarke will be returning to
the parish to supply in my absence. We extend a warm welcome to him again, and thank him for his willingness to help out. A special word of thanks also to Fr John Gillen, an old friend of Annerley Ekibin parish, for his assistance recently as well.
We have been notified that a "healthcheck" on our Safeguarding compliance is coming our way. This is because the requirements for parish volunteers have been increased and expanded recently. So, we need to ensure that we have all the necessary
checks and clearances in place, as far as is possible, by August 23. Shirley Sadler, our mighty parish secretary, is in the process of putting together packages with the necessary paperwork needing to be completed. If you are one of our parish volunteers, - first and foremost - thank you for your generous contribution to the life of our parish. Would you kindly drop in to the parish office at some time within the next week or two, and collect your package, then, after having filled-out the various forms, return them for collating? If it is not convenient for you to come to the office, please ring us and the package will be posted to you. I would ask that, insofar as it is possible, you have the completed paperwork back to us by Friday 17 August. In Christ, Fr Scot Anthony Armstrong

Reflection
The true medicine to cure us of pride, is to keep down and thwart touchiness of mind. St Philip Neri
The sign that we are in accord with truth, that our desire is in accord with the Holy Spirit, is not only that the thing desired is good, it is also that we are at peace. A desire that causes us to lose peace, even if the thing desired is excellent in itself, is not of God. It is necessary to want and desire, but in a free and detached way, in abandoning to God the realisation of our desires, as He desires and when He wishes. To educate our own heart in this sense is of great importance for our spiritual progress. It is God who converts us and causes us to grow, not our nervousness, our impetuosity and our impatience.
From Searching For and Maintaining Peace, by J. Philippe (Sceptre, New York, 2002)
Tuesday Rosary
On Tuesday 10th of July, the Holy Rosary is recited for the carers of the disabled and the sick, and for the Pope, the Bishops and the Priests, through the intercession of Our Lady of Grace. It begins 10 minutes after the 7am Mass in Mary Immaculate Church. All welcome. Enquiries: Legion of Mary on 0421 258 418 (Bill).
First Saturday Devotion on July 7th: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Confession (7.15am to 8am), Twenty Minutes Meditation, 8.15am Mass, and Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Holy Rosary are recited 10 minutes after the Mass inside Mary Immaculate Church. Please come to the front for the Consecration and the Holy Rosary. Prayer sheets are provided.
REQUEST FOR WOOL: Now that the cooler weather is with us, our parishioner who very kindly crotchets knee rugs for people in nursing homes, is in need of more wool. As long as we can supply her with wool, she will crotchet. Please leave at the back of the Church. Thanks and blessings. Marie Melski. You can contact me at 3848 0338.
Rosary of Reparation to the Blessed Sacrament: Our Eucharistic Lord invites us to pray on Thursdays, the day of the week the Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders were instituted. Each Thursday, from 10:15am at Mary Immaculate church, you are invited to pray the rosary for priests, for the protection and strength of families, and in reparation for sins against the Holy Eucharist. Any enquiries, please contact Uberlinda, 3892 1617.
INVITATION: All are warmly invited to the 7:00pm (English) Mass on Monday evening when Archbishop Coleridge will institute as acolytes our Brothers Tyson, Conor and Matthew. A small reception will follow the Mass in the courtyard beside the church. We look forward to seeing you there, and please keep the Brothers in your prayers. We hope to have our first priestly ordinations in about three years. The Oratory community is solely responsible for the funding of our seminarians’ training. Our parish supports the equivalent of one priest (i.e. the Parish Priest), as it has for many years now, but beyond this, the running of the Oratory house and other expenses are the responsibility of the Oratory. We are indebted to our generous benefactors who support us, prayerfully and financially. We’ve tried very hard not to ask for money all the time, but we need to make our financial position known at least once a year, at the very least to express our gratitude, and to call for your continued support. Please see the letter that is on the pews this weekend which outlines the Oratory’s financial needs for the coming year. A donation form can be found on the reverse. It is good for everyone to be reminded that the parish and oratory finances are completely separate. The parish finances are used to pay for everything that any other parish would pay for. Anything pertaining to the Oratory is paid for from the Oratory finances. If you have any questions about donations to the Oratory, or other things, please contact me. All the Brothers are now home with us in Brisbane, so you will see them around for the next few months until they return overseas to continue their seminary studies. MASS READINGS
First Reading: Ezekiel 2:2-5
The spirit came into me and made me stand up, and I heard the Lord speaking to me. He said, `Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to the rebels who have turned against me. Till now they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me. The sons are defiant and obstinate; I am sending you to them, to say, "The Lord says this." Whether they listen or not, this set of rebels shall know there is a prophet among them.'
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Responsorial Psalm 122 (Said by all)
To you have I lifted up my eyes, you who dwell in the heavens: my eyes, like the eyes of slaves on the hand of their lords.
Like the eyes of a servant on the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are on the Lord our God till he show us his mercy.
Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy. We are filled with contempt. Indeed all too full is our soul with the scorn of the rich, with the proud man's disdain.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:7-10
In view of the extraordinary nature of these revelations, to
stop me from getting too proud I was given a thorn in the flesh, an angel of Satan to beat me and stop me from getting too proud! About this thing, I have pleaded with the Lord three times for it to leave me, but he has said, `My grace is enough for you: my power is at its best in weakness.' So I shall be very happy to make my weakness my special boast so that the power of Christ may stay over me, and that is why I am quite content with my weaknesses, and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and the agonies I go through for Christ's sake. For it is when I am weak that I am strong.
The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord is upon me: he sent me to bring Good News to the poor. Alleluia!
Gospel: Mark 6:1-6
Jesus went to his home town and his disciples accompanied him. With the coming of the Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue and most of them were astonished when they heard him. They said, `Where did the man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been granted him, and these miracles that are worked through him? This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joset and Jude and Simon? His sisters, too, are they not here with us?' And they would not accept him.
And Jesus said to them, `A prophet is only despised in his own country among his own relations and in his own house'; and he could work no miracle there, though he cured a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ
