Dear Parents,
Attached you will find letter flashcards. Please cut apart the capital and
lowercase letters and use them as flashcards with your child. This should be
daily practice of not only the letter but also the sound the letter makes. Students
need to be able to identify both capital and lowercase letters. Below are some
suggestions for practicing letters at home.
Play a concentration game with the letters. Place all letters face down
and choose two letters trying to match the capital with the lowercase. If
you choose two letters that match you keep the match and the player with
the most amount of matches at the end of the game is the winner.
Pick a letter from the stack and practice writing the letter, capital and
lowercase.
Pick a letter and write that letter with cool-whip on a cookie sheet.
Choose a letter and try to make that same letter with play-doh. Don’t
forget to say the sound the letter makes.
Write the letters outside on the sidewalk with a paintbrush and water.
Practice the letter sound as you go!
Use sidewalk chalk to draw the letters.
Be creative and keep it fun! Once your child has mastered the letters, please
send them back to school. I will have the student name the letter and sound
and if they are successful they will get to choose from treasure box! If they are
unable to name all the letters, I will send the letter(s) home with them to
practice some more. Once your child has mastered all the letters in the alphabet
they will be given “red readers” to work on. Thanks for all your work with your
child! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
