One of the key product lines from Benedicti-ne Products are our Benedictine Medicines.

These products are based on natural recipes using plant and herbal extracts prepared by the Bene-dictines with the use of an innovative, patented FLC Pharma formula. The monastery was the first in the area to grow and popularize a lot of herbal plants. At first, the plants were only grown in the monastery gardens, but now their popu-larity is widespread. The names of some plants prove the connection between the monastery

and herbs, for instance Cnicus benedictus or St. Benedict’s Thistle, a species of thistle which in Polish is rendered as “mniszek lekarski or “little monk’s medicine”, - a clear allusion to the me-dical capabilities of monks. In the vicinity of the monastery infirmary, there were separate herb and vegetable gardens, which were grown sym-metrically; these were rosemary, sage, rue, mint, caraway and dill, which were given to sick and weak patients. By the end of the 18th century it became a ra-rity, but has enjoyed a revival in recent years.

Meads are served at room temperature. Some-times mead is mixed with fruit juice, herbs and roots to make its flavour more sophisti-cated. In winter it tastes wonderful when hot and mixed with spices. Meads season easily and after some time gain a deep aromatic ta-ste. They are stored like wine: in dark rooms, lying on their sides, at a low temperature (6-10°C).

Afternoon coffee


Unique coffee in unique packaging.

Arabica is the oldest and most popular variety of coffee, originating in Ethiopia, but now grown across Africa, as well as in Brazil, Columbia, India, Sumatra and the Caribbean. Arabica coffee beans contain very little caffeine (between 1 and 1.7%), but taste excellent after grinding and brewing. The infusion is delicate, aromatic and slightly acidic, but not sour. This acidity gives Arabica a soft, chocolaty flavour. Our afternoon blend contains a little Robusta coffee, which has a sharper flavour and contains more caffeine.

Our confectionery is prepared in a traditional way in accordance with old Benedictine recipes, and includes oatmeal (30%) and many other valuable nutrients that are beneficial to the body. There is evidence that oats were grown in northern and central Europe during the Bronze Age, i.e. 1800-700 B.C., and oat-meal remained one of Europe’s food staples right into the Middle Ages. Oats have antispasmodic, antineo-plastic, diuretic and calming properties. They have a good influence on the heart and strengthen the im-mune and nervous systems. What is more, oat grain has a high fibre content, and amongst all grain types, oats have the most protein and the best combination of amino acids.

Our preserves are made in a traditional way, as done by our grandmothers and great grandmothers. Only the ripest and juiciest fruits of the right size, colour and sugar content (60-70%) are chosen for produc-tion. The fruit is then slow-cooked in thick syrup, a process that requires much time and effort, but which

is worth it in order to recreate the flavours of childhood memory. We then add rarely used ingredients – spices, raisins, almonds, nuts and alcohol, which contribute to our products’ unique taste, setting them apart from other, factory made preserves.

Our preserves are an excellent addition to desserts, ca-kes and pastries served with afternoon tea. To avoid sugar crystallization, they should be stored at room temperature. Please note that due to their lack of pre-servatives, the shelf life of our preserves is considerably shorter than those made in factories.

Benedictine Products wouldn’t be complete without mushrooms and forest fruit, products that have been seen on the monk’s tables for centuries. Only choice selected, healthy, wor-m-free and meticulously cleaned mushrooms are chosen for processing. Everything is put in sauce (marinade), the recipe for which is a ti-ghtly guarded secret of the brotherhood. The jars with mushrooms and sauce are then pa-steurized in hot water.

Apart from mushrooms, we also recommend forest fruit: cranberries and lingonberries. Cranberries are the leading fruit when it comes to proven health benefits. They conta-in a lot of antioxidants, which protect from the damage of free radicals. A component of

cranberries, proanthocyanidin, prevents the formation of dental plaque. Cranberries are rich in organic acids, anthocyanins, tannins and B vitamins. They also regulate cholesterol levels and help with urinary tract infections. Preparation:Mix both types of flour, eggs, oil, salt and 2 glasses of Pilgrim’s Drink.Put in the fridge for 15 minutes. After this time, the batter sho-uld be as thick as cream. Cook on a preheated pan with some oil. These pancakes taste best with mascarpone and a splash of our cherry rum Razor Preserve




The Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec


Benedictine Products are a collection of high quality food products, a growing range of cosmetics and medicinal extracts, as well as beers and fruit liqueurs, all of which have been especially selected by Monks from Tyniec Monastery. In the vicinity of the infirmary, there was a herbal garden, in which monks grew medicinal herbs, such as rosemary, sage, rue, mint, caraway and dill, to treat sick and weak patients. The monastery at Tyniec, founded by Casimir the Restorer in 1044, is the oldest existing monastery in Poland.
