  • Dear Friends in Christ, Merry Christmas! With the celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord this weekend, we complete our celebra-tion of Christmas. I hope and pray this holy time has been full of blessings and graces. I also want to once again thank everyone that has been so thoughtful and generous during this time of the year, from the kind words, prayers, thoughtful cards and Christmas gifts, participation at Masses in-person or online, and the generous support of our Gift of Faith Appeal—I have been overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and generosity; once again, thank you! As we return to Ordinary Time there are some updates I would like to share with our entire Church Family:

    • As you may have heard, Pope Francis has declared a Year of St. Joseph beginning last month with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This year will give us a wonderful opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with this pivotal player in Salvation History. Work is already underway for various ways our Parishes can take advantage of this year and I look forward to sharing them in the very near future.

    • You may have noticed some new candlesticks and new bells being used at St. Ann Church. Thanks to the gener-osity of a number of anonymous donors, we were able to order these liturgical items back in June. We were all very excited when they arrived in time for use this Christmas—they certainly add to the beauty of our church.

    • This past week was Patrick Rusher’s last week as our Custodian/Maintenance worker as prepares to begin a new job in finance outside of our area. Patrick began working for the Parishes this past summer on a part-time basis and then took over the position full-time when Anthony moved to the school. Patrick has done a phenomenal job and we are all grateful for his hard work and dedication. We are reworking/rethinking this position and are posting a new job listing in this bulletin. If you know of someone that might be interested, please have them check out the posting.

    There’s much more to share and many new and exciting things to come for this year, if you’re like me, we’re going into 2021 with optimism for everything that God has in store. God bless! In Christ, Fr. Michael Roemmele Pastor

We are most grateful when families choose to include us in the obituary in this special way. To show our appreciation, beginning in 2021, we will recognize individuals who name one of our parishes for memorials. Thank you again for remembering us and continuing to support our mission. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our readers, servers, ushers, musicians, EMHCs, and other volunteers who volunteered their time and talents to help our Christmas Masses go so well. Our entire Church Family is grateful for you and all that you do! In your kindness, please pray for the souls of Jo Ann Oddo, Rita Missler, Michelle Karlovetz, who recently passed away. May their loved ones find comfort and may they rest in peace!

    Marriage - Josh & Allison Avery

    Laurann Kleinhans is an active member of the St. Ann Parish family. She had been married to Mark for 44 years before his passing in 2015. Together, they built a wonderful family - a daughter, a son, 4 granddaughters, and 1 great granddaughter. Laurann was a “Tupperware Lady” for 24 years, connecting with many people through her work. She worked in retail for a few years and stayed home for a few years to be grandma daycare. Her last job was at Fremont Dialysis, from which she is now retired. At St. Ann, she taught 3rd grade CCD for 4 years, and she just finished a 3-year term on Pastoral Council. She has been on the Social Concerns Committee since it began 11 years ago, and is currently a team leader for the combined Parish committee. She has also been a EMHC for the last several years, is a member of the Altar Rosary group and is a money counter. A few years ago, she volunteered to be chairman of a new ministry, the All-Souls Day luncheon. This luncheon was held after our Annual All Souls Day Mass. It was a tremendous support for grieving parishioners and was a

    great success. Unfortunately, like many other parish activities, it was not held this past year due to COVID, but we look forward to holding it again soon. Thank you so much, Laurann, for all the time and talent you have given our parishes to help us “Grow in Holiness” together. We really appreciate all of your hard work!

    2020 Christmas Flower Offering - St. Ann Parish Given by...In Memory or In Honor Of...

    Why did Jesus, the Sinless One, submit himself to John's baptism? John preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 3:3) - of which Jesus had no need. However, in this humble submission we see a foreshadowing of the "baptism" of His bloody death upon the cross. Jesus' baptism is the acceptance and the beginning of His mission as God's suffering Servant (Isaiah 53). He allowed himself to be numbered among sinners. Jesus submitted himself entirely to His Father's will. Out of love He consented to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins. Do you know the joy of trust and submission to God? The Father proclaimed His entire delight in His Son and spoke audibly for all to hear. The Holy Spirit, too, was present as He anointed Jesus for His ministry which began that day as He rose from the waters of the Jordan River. Jesus will be the source of the Spirit for all who come to believe in Him. At His baptism the heavens were opened and the waters were sanctified by the descent of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, signifying the beginning of a new creation. How can we enter into the mystery of Jesus' humble self-abasement and baptism? Gregory of Nazianzus (329-390 AD), an early church father tells us: "Let us be buried with Christ by Baptism to rise with Him; let us go down with Him to be raised with Him; and let us rise with Him to be glorified with Him." Do you want to see your life transformed by the love and power of Jesus Christ? And do you want to become a more effective instrument of the Gospel of peace, mercy, and righteousness? Examine Jesus' humility and ask the Holy Spirit to forge this same attitude in your heart. As you do, heaven will open for you as well. The Lord Jesus is ever ready to renew us in his Holy Spirit and to anoint us for mission. We are called to be "light" and "salt" to those around us. The Lord wants His love and truth to shine through us that others may see the goodness and truth of God's message of salvation. Ask the Lord Jesus to fill you with his Holy Spirit that you may radiate the joy of the Gospel to those around you.

    The Baptism of the Lord All music used with permission of OneLicense A-729175

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM: You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.

    ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: When the Lord had been baptized, the heavens opened, and the Spirit came down. Came down like a dove to rest on Him. Then the voice of the

    Father thundered: This is My beloved Son, with Him I am well pleased.

    1. When Jesus comes to be baptized,

    He leaves the hidden years behind,

    The years of safety and of peace,

    To bear the sins of humankind.

    2.The Spirt of the Lord comes down,

    Anoints the Christ to suffering,

    To preach the word, to free the bound,

    And to the mourner, comfort bring.

    3. He will not quench the dying flame,

    And what is bruised he will not break,

    But heal the wound injustice dealt,

    And out of death his triumph bring.

    4. O Spirit help us be like Christ,

    To live in love and charity,

    To walk in truth and justice now,

    And grow in Christian dignity.

    WHEN JESUS COMES TO BE BAPTIZED

    1. O let all who thirst,

    let them come to the water.

    And let all who have nothing,

    let them come to the Lord:

    without money, without price.

    Why should you pay the price,

    except for the Lord?

    2. And let all who seek,

    let them come to the water.

    And let all who have nothing,

    let them come to the Lord:

    without money, without strife.

    Why should you spend your life,

    except for the Lord?

    3. And let all who toil,

    let them come to the water.

    And let all who are weary,

    let them come to the Lord:

    all who labor, without rest.

    How can your soul find rest,

    except for the Lord?

    COME TO THE WATER

  • 1. Joy to the world! the Lord is come;

    Let earth receive her King;

    Let ev’ry heart prepare him room,

    And heav’n and nature sing,

    And heav’n and nature sing,

    And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing.

    2. Joy to the world! the Savior reigns;

    Let us our songs employ;

    While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains

    Repeat the sounding joy,

    Repeat the sounding joy,

    Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

    JOY TO THE WORLD
