Welcome to the 2014 Washington Metro DachtoberFest, presented by and benefiting the

Washington Metro DachtoberFest Foundation (WMDF)!

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to personally welcome you to the e-ventplex, Home of

the Great Frederick Fair, for WMDF’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Our mission is to raise

awareness and educate dachshund owners and potential owners with respect to dachshund

health, to raise money for rescue vetting and to provide support for ill dachshunds whose

owners cannot afford to pay for medical treatment. That is why our logo is “supporting the

dachshunds who own our hearts”.

Thank you all so much for your support! Every admission donation and event participation fee

paid will enable us to provide funding for extraordinary veterinary expenses for rescue

organizations and low-income families with dachshunds in medical need.

I would also like to take this moment to thank my resourceful board and our incredible

volunteers, as it is only with their help that today is possible.

cheer on your favorite dachshunds (or dachshund wannabes!) in the Dachshund Strut, the

Woofminster dog show, and the Dachshund Dash! And, most importantly, celebrate the dogs

2014 WASHINGTON METRO DACHTOBERFEST SCHEDULE* *PLEASE NOTE: Both the AM and PM Races are limited to 20 dogs in each division and Woofminster Dog show is limited to first 25 entries in each class. Please register early at the Foundation’s Event Table located in the VCA VRA EVENTS BUILDING. There are entry fees for certain events, as noted

below. Please be respectful of judges and event directors involved in all events. Poor sports may be asked to leave the event.

RAFFLE DRAWING AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE P.M. DACHSHUND DASH

RAFFLE BASKETS: Buy RED raffle tickets for the Chinese Auction through-out the day. You can purchase

raffle tickets for $1 each, 6 for $5 or 12 for $10. You do not need to be present to win, however, if you win you

will need to make arrangement to pick up the basket in Frederick or Alexandria after the Fest. All raffle

proceeds go to the Washington Metro DachtoberFest Foundation to help further the mission of the Foundation

by supporting the dachshunds who own our hearts. Drawing will be at 4:00.

POOP RAFFLE: Please help us keep the fairgrounds clean and pick up after your dogs. WMDF is providing

a complimentary roll of purple waste bags to every family to use if your dog finds it necessary to relieve him or

herself. Clean up stations are located throughout the Fest’s grounds. Each time you clean up after your dog, you

are eligible to receive a raffle ticket for a special prize. Here is how this works: Clean up after your dog, locate

a WMDF volunteer (lime green t-shirts with a purple dachshund dog), allow the volunteer to observe you

deposit the waste in a waste reciprocal outside, and in return receive a BLUE raffle ticket for a special prize.

We will have one drawing prior to each event. You must be present to win.

DOOR PRIZES: With every admission donation you will receive one ticket for the door prize drawing.

Drawing for door prizes will be throughout the day and during the raffle.

You must be present to win.

DACHSHUND DASH: There will be an A.M race and a P.M. race and Champions will be declared for each

race. Each race will have 4 divisions: Little Links (under 2 years), Bratwurst (2 to 8), Senior Schnitzel (9 and

over) and Hot Dog Carts (disabled). Number of dogs per race will be capped at 50. Each registered dog may

only run in 1 qualifying heat and in only 1 division. Only dachshund and dachshund mixes may race. Each

owner is responsible for deciding for which category to register his or her dachshund. Winners of each

individual qualifying heat will advance to the championship heat in each division. The winners of each division

will advance to the overall championship heat to crown the Champion of each race! In the event of a tie in any

of the races, a tie-breaker race will be held. False starts will be restarted and may be disqualified. Please

ensure that you have 2 humans per racing dachshund -- one to release and one to catch. Entry Fee: $5.00.

DACHSHUND STRUT COSTUME PARADE AND CONTEST: Let your dachshund strut his or her stuff!

We have 5 categories this year: Brightest Most Colorful, Wildest and Craziest, Wittiest and Funniest, Most

Cheerful Family, and Best Smiling Strutting 'Tude! Our 5 judges will select their favorite in each category and

audience participation will determine the winning Best In Show Happiest Costume from the 5 first place

category winners! Dachshunds and Dachshund Wannabes welcomed. No Entry Fee.

WOOFMINSTER DOG SHOW: Did you ever think that your beautiful doxie would be great in a dog show?

Well, here is your chance! Enjoy a brief lesson in showing your dog and walk the red carpet (actually it’s green

astro-turf ). This is your dog’s day! No experience needed - it's a fun show where you will learn a little and

laugh a lot. The judges won't be looking at conformation but will be looking at the dog’s spirit, personality and

"give it to me” attitude. Come show off your best friend and show the world how HAPPY he or she is. This

show is based on how your dogs personality shines through. There will be 5 classes : Puppy class, Males,

Females, Seniors, and Doxie Wannabes (any dog other than a doxie/doxie-mix). Only 25 entries in each class so

come to the fest early and sign your BEST in SHOW pup up. Owners will decide which class to enter. Only one

dog per handler. The 1st place winners of each class will return for a best in show, which the audience will

choose! Prizes will be awarded and every dog will have its day! Entry Fee: $5.00.
