CRUISERweightFriday night November 4th 2016 at the Omega International Event Center in Corona, CaliforniaConstantin Bejenaru (Moldova – based in NY – WBC #40) W 10 Stivens Bujaj (Albania – based in NY – WBC #16by Star Boxing Inc. Joe DeGuardia

In a clash of undefeated cruiserweights, Constantin Bejenaru (12-0, 4 KOs) recovered from a trip to the canvas to outpointStivens “Superman” Bujaj (16-1-1, 11 KOs) over ten rounds. The vacant WBC International and WBC Continental Americas titles were on the line. The southpaw winner was giving away a bit of height to Bujaj, but still able to push forward with a style that Bujaj found difficult to solve. Bejenaru was taking the fight to Bujaj, but he suffered a bad fifth when a left hook from the latter put him down for the count. He fought his way out of that minor crisis and his case was helped when Bujaj lost a point in the ninth for hitting on the break. Despite a bad cut over his left eye, Bejenaru turned out to be a clear winner. Scores 97-91 from all three judges for Bejenaru. The 32-year-old Moldavian-born Bejenaru wins the vacant WBC International and Continental Americas titles. He did his boxing for Romania as an amateur winning five national titles, a gold medal at the World Combat Games, competingat the 2005, 2007 and 2009 World championships and taking medals at both the European and European Union Championships. That long stint as an amateur probably means he had to shed his vest earlier, as he showed against Bujaj he can be a name in this division in the pro ranks. “Superman” Bujaj, 26, moved from Albania to New York when he was only sixmonths old and as an amateur was New York Golden Gloves champion in 2009 and 2010. He lost his unbeaten record and has some rebuilding to do after thisperformance against Bejenaru. Bujaj is a talent, but that is not enough at this levelif he does not properly train.Promoter Joe DeGuardia had these comments on the fight"I knew this would be a very hard fight for Constantin but I was very confident he would come out on top which he did. He fought a very smart fight and we expect big things from him in the near future".More pictures next page

Avni Yildirim (14-0) W TKO 3 Schiller Hyppolite (21-2)Yildirim wins vacant WBC International Silver title as he pounds Hyppolite to defeatinside three rounds. Hyppolite had edges in height and reach, but Yildirim quickly tookthe Canadian to the ropes with a stiff jab and was firing hard hooks to head and body. Hyppolite tried to counter, but Yildirim just walked through the punches and hurt him with two left hooks to the body. The Turkish fighter continued to pressurise Hyppolite banginghome left hooks and right uppercuts in the first round. The second round was almost the same, although Hyppolite threw and landed more counters. Yildirim was living up to his“Robot” nickname just walking forward driving Hyppolite around the ring and scoring with short hooks and uppercuts inside. Hyppolite tried to stand and fight in the third butcrunching body punches and uppercuts were draining his resistance and a short left hook followed by a clubbing right to the head sent him tumbling across the ring and down on hisback in a corner. He was up at seven and indicated he was OK to continue, but lookedshaky. Yildirim finished the fight with a series of hooks to the head and referee Daniel Van De Wiele correctly stopped the fight. Hyppolite did not dispute the stoppage and at dinner after the show he congratulate the referee for the prompt timing of the stoppage. The 25-year-old Turk had previously won the WBC International Silver title at light heavy, but decided this year to moving down a division and he is now looking very powerful at 168 lbs. Yildirim is strong, hard punching fighter and able to win through relentless pressure. A former standout amateur, he initially succeeded at kickboxing before moving over the boxing representing Turkey at the World Championships. He was the WBC #4 contender before this outstanding win.

Haitian-born Hyppolite was rated at #7 by the WBC and after the fight he admitted that he had never been hit like this before.

Craig Cunningham UK

Barclaycard Arena (formerly NIA) , Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom Saturday October 22nd 2016

By Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing)

Anthony Ogogo (UK) v Craig Cunningham (UK) for the vacant WBC International Middleweight title.Cunningham stopped Ogogo in round 8 to become the new WBC International champion.Craig Cunningham Won TKO round 8In the eight round, referee Ian John-Lewis called a time-out at 1’27” for what appeared to be Ogogo going back to his corner to fix some tape on his glove, but the fight was waved off when trainer Tony Simms pulled Ogogo out. Sims took about twenty secs to fix the tape and then informed the referee that Ogogo, still on his feet in his corner, was not going to proceed with the fight. Later, Sauerland (the manager) reported that Ogogo was retired by his corner as he had suffered from severe blurred double vision due to a broken eye socket.

Ogogo was floored in the second round . This is an outstanding win for Cunningham who improved to 17 wins (4). His only defeatcame against Tom Baker in the 2015 Prizefighter and he has now won six in a row. Olympian Ogogo, 27, just can’t get free of injurieswhich have restricted his activity to just 12 fights in over three years. Although Cunningham was coming on strong Ogogo was very much in the fight.

Saturday October 22nd 2016By Eddie Hearn

Sam Egginton WBC #24 Frankie Gavin WBC#37Sam EGGINGTON (UK) W KO 8 2:42

Eggington secured the WBC International title after beating Frankie Gavin in Birmingham thriller. The sixth round between Sam Eggington and Frankie Gavin is a contender for best of the year.Despite Gavin coming in overweight, he put it all on the line and, together with Eggington, produced a sensational fight in the Barclaycard Arena. The two met fire with fire, but it was Gavin who, after being knocked down twice, was stopped in the eighth as Eggington claimed the WBC International title. The fight started very cagily as both Birmingham fighters eased their way into proceedings, Eggington walking down his opponent, wary of any counters coming back, while Gavin looked to get his technical boxing going. The fight quickly caught fire in the third as Eggington floored Gavin with a short right hook. Gavin, clearly frustrated with the knockdown, got up and fired back as both men traded spiteful punches in a gruelling and very entertaining round. Gavin perhaps even got the better of the stanza as he stood his ground and landed a flurry of punishing body shots. Remarkably, Gavin boxed well in the seventh, but Eggington, 23, had found the key and kept sinking in cruel, hurtful body blows on his foe in a much better fight than anyone had expected to see when tuning in on Sky Sports. The end in round eight.

Why the Silver Championships are important

Based upon the feedback and request that we had received

from several promoters, managers and trainers;

in 2011 we have started with the WBC International Silver

Championships .

The Interim Championships had previously turned out to be an

innovative activity , but overcome by the events and by the

new demands of the pugilistic world market in recent years.

Therefore, the Committee decided to support the Silver

Championships in order to replace the old Interim title bouts.

The Silver Championship is not an age-restricted title, but

instead does factor in the boxers’ respective quality and ability.

Like the full WBC International title, the Silver belt will be

available to boxers who intend to pursue their career within the

World Boxing Council and are supported by a good record.

So far, the results have proved us right and it is encouraging to

see that the boxing community has responded with enthusiasm

and gratitude .

Many WBC International Silver Championships have been

successfully promoted in the last five years.

The Committee has now approved Silver champion Cletus Seldin to fight for this vacant belt.Joe DeGuardia (photo) has reported he will stage this vacant Championship by the end of 2016.

Sean DODD UKLightweightSaturday 15th October 2016Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom

Sean Dodd struggled against accomplished Belgian Francesco Patera, but just did enough to retain his WBC International title on a split decision. Patera led early. He took the fight to Dodd and was scoring with good lefts. He was quicker and busier and wobbled Dodd with a punch in the second. It was the third before “Masher” began to get into the fight and even then it was an uphill struggle. Dodd did his best work when he cut down the ring and worked in close to smother the better skills of Patera. It was anybody’s fight going into the last two rounds and that’s where Dodd’s strength gave him the edge but it was a close fight which could have gone either way as the points tallies showed. Scores 96-94 twice for Dodd and 96-95 for Patera. The popular 32-year-old Dodd did not turn pro until he was 27. He has had a good 2016, drawing with Cardle in a return and beating Pasquale Di Silvio for the vacant WBC International title last May, but this one was too close for comfort. Although he lost, Pateracame out of this fight with a heightened profile. His only other defeat was on points against world rated Yvan Mendy in May. French Mendy is the one who had beaten Olympic champ Luke Campbell.Dodd was rated at #24 before this win.

Josh Warrington (24-0, 5 KOs) scored a ninth round KO over Patrick Hyland (31-3, 15 KOs). Warrington dropped Hyland in round eight and twicein round nine. After the second KD in round nine, referee Ian John Lewis did not proceed with the full count and stopped the fight. Notes:*Patrick Hyland stepped on the scales on Friday July 30th at 1.35 pm LT He scaled an over-the-limit weight (128.6 Lbs) and was given the regular two hours tomake the limit. We were then told by his team manager that he would not be revisiting the scales. The interested parties agreed at the rules meeting to proceedwith the non-title bout. Warrington had actually retained the title having scaled a regular 125.2 Lbs on his first attempt.Warrington outboxed tough Hyland and then showed real power in his finishing. Hyland was trying to walk Warrington down in the first round; he looked bigger andstronger and scored with some long rights to the body , but the round was Warrington’s as the champion slotted home quick jabs and then got though with some rapid combinations. Hyland kept marching forward looking for a big punch to turn the fight but in the sixth Warrington was confident enough to stand and trade and Hyland was taking plenty of head punches. They both had some success as they traded punches at the start of the seventh, but by the end of the round Warrington was again getting through with fast combinations and landing heavy rights to the head. Warrington started the eight with another series of head punches and did land two rights which sent Hyland down on one knee. Warrington finished it in the ninth.

Barclaycard Arena Birmingham, United Kingdom

Saturday October 22nd 2016 by Eddie HearnSean Davis (UK) Won Unanimous Decision

Paul Economidies (Wales-UK)Birmingham’s Sean Davis faced Chester’s Paul Economidies for the vacant WBC International Super Bantamweight title. A cut was opened up at the top of Davis’s head at the end of the second round but the corner team did a good job and no blood appeared to be troubling Davis, 26. Davis appeared to be the stronger man, despite being slightly smaller . He also appeared to be landing the more hurtful shots and a cut was opened on the eye of Economidies, 29, in round four. Beckoned on by his legion of fans, Davis appeared to be the fresher fighter going into the second half of the fight. The seventh round was probably the best round yet for Econmidies as he was finally able to get Davis pressed against the ropes for a more sustained period of time and was able to land some clean shots. Davis held strong and landed some shots of his own, with both fighters showing solid poker faces and looking largely untroubled with the oppositions work. Economidies appeared to find a second wind in the later rounds and had more success in being the fighter on the front foot. It almost appeared as if the fighters were just taking it in turns to be the aggressor and throw the bigger shots. Both men came out to lay it all on the line in the final round. They set a ferocious pace from the 10th and final round bell and traded together for the last three minutes. With neither man ready to give in, we went to the judges scorecards. The fight was scored 96-94 from all three judges. Sean ‘Showtime’ Davis (11-0) got the nod in the end, but Economidies (20-6, 4 early) played his part in an engaging contest.

Bantam weight Ryan BURNETT Ryan BURNETT - Born on 21 May 1992

Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK

Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United KingdomSaturday 15th October 2016:Ryan Burnett retains his title after an epic battle against Farrag. War broke out early, with Farrag making his usual aggressive start.Burnett was scoring with fast combinations. Farrag banged back with some solid punches towards the end of the fight, but the decision went to Burnett. Scores 118-110, 118-111 and 117-111 all for Burnett. This was a battle of attrition with both fighters getting home punches in volume and quality. The pace and the intensity never flagged for which both fighters deserve credit. Burnett is just 24, so the Belfast fighter will go on to get even better and a world title shot in late 2017 has to be a possibility. As an amateur he won a gold medal at the Youth Olympics and a silver at the World Youth Championships and was No 1 in the AIBA Youth ratings. A back injury ruled him out for a year and curtailed his chance of medals at Senior level. He is a great talent. He was rated at #12 by the WBC before this win and he is still unbeaten in 15 bouts (9 wins inside). He had won the vacant WBC International title against Anthony Settoul last February and made a successful first defence against Cesar Ramirez last July. Against Farrag he retained his WBC International and British titles.

Arthur Cordero Villanueva (Philippines) , the former champion, has decided to move up in weight. He had won the vacant belt on November 28th last year with a split decision nod over Victor Mendez (19-3-2, 15 KOs) of Hermosillo, Mexico. Villanueva found it difficult to comply with the 115 Lbs limit and decided to move up to Bantamweight.

Taking into account that Giemel Abuan Magramowon the vacant WBC International Fly-weight title last December 2015 and has not made a title defence since;in due consideration that he has signed a contract to fight against current WBC World Silver champion Muhammad Waseem next November 27th in Seoul (Korea);

this Committee believes it is appropriate and opportune to declare the WBC International 112 Lbs title vacant and look for an immediate solution in order to crown a new champion in this weight class.

The Committee wishes Magramo good luck for his next fight.

Jonathan Mark C. Refugio has been stripped of his title for failing to make a titledefence after his voluntary defence stage had expired.

Jonathan Mark C. Refugio (Philippines) won the WBC International LightFly-weight title last February 20 against at that time defending champion Richard Claveras.Since that, Refugio did not make his first title defence. Last July 16 Refugio lost by UD against Melvin Jerusalem without a WBC authorization. The Committee tried to give Refugio the opportunity to keep his belt subject to a title defence to take place by Mid September. This situation has caused the division to be frozen up with no activity. The Committee had no alternatives but to declare the WBC International LightFly-weight title vacant in order to crown a new champion in short terms.

Title vacant now

Former title holder Xiong Zhao Zhong decided to fight for another organization. There is a bit to say about Zhong, but the main reason why the Committee vacated this belt is simply due to the decision of the former champion to fight an IBF Eliminator .Zhong lost that fight in China last May 25th by SD12 to José Antonio Jimenez.

Before that, Zhong was dropped from WBC # 3 to WBC #18 after he lost on February 11th against AIBA APB World Champion Lyu Bin. Bout on 2-11-16 in Lu Zhou, China. Lyu Bin W 10 Zhong.

The WBC International title is now vacant.

Backed by thirty years of great success and many outstanding WBC International

Championships that have taken place, it is now very clear that this success would have never been achieved without

proper direction and good control of the international boxing scenario both from a technical and ethical point of

view. This great success could never have been earned without the participation of the worldwide boxing

community. We are today very proud of the superb standards we have set. But, that doesn’t mean we are

complacent. We want to do more work and achieve more. We want to discover further productive areas and

unearth many more great champions. There is no doubt that we have set standards for other sanctioning bodies, to

help promote this great sport of ours.

It is also very clear now that only the WBC, with its outstanding organization and unity, could have established this

revolutionary and innovative programme, which has helped promote and develop boxing in the world. This great

innovation to boxing took place in the beautiful city of Aruba during the 1986 Annual Convention we held, amid the

noise of the rolling waves and hundreds of tourists. The first country to promote a WBC International

Championship was Thailand, on 10th December 1986, when mexican Raul Valdez stopped in four rounds Rocky

Chitalada to win the bantamweight belt in Bangkok. Since then, we have set out to many wonderful lands and

staged out sensational fights, plus promotional activity. The WBC flag has fluttered all around the world, it has

been raised in many wonderful sites and in several new venues. What beneficts have the WBC International

Championships brought to the world and how has it helped boxing ? How have fighters who are the leaders of our

great sport benefited ?

… about the ………WBC International Championships

Page 57: Dear Don José … I will be missing you · Dear Don José … I will be missing you and I will ... “Robot” nickname just walking forward driving Hyppolite around the ... referee

The WBC International Championships have been a boon to boxing because they have helped spot new talents, brought

out new fighters who would have never seen the light of the day for years if not for this great talent-spotting

championship. In other words, it has been a great stepping stone tournament for many boxers to reach stardom. This

innovative activity has helped create great champions. The WBC International Championships have helped promoters

and managers all over the world. It has guided them in the right direction and placed them on a platform of progress.

This outstanding championship has showcased rising stars who, under normal circumstances, would have been hidden

for years, without any opportunity to forge ahead. This unique event has helped the growth of several fighters who were

denied in the past of excelling in boxing and have been forced to remain hidden due to lack of opportunities. Like me, I

am sure, many are aware that several young fighters we see in our midst have surfaced because of these championships.

As Chairman of the WBC International Championships Committee I am naturally happy that we have so many top

world champions who have blossomed from the WBC International Championships ranks. They have thus opened the

doors for others to follow through the beautiful example they have set. Yes, the WBC has indeed taken a revolutionary

step by launching the International Championships activity which has been productive, revolutionary and has been a

great boon to boxing.

We must always thank our beloved, late and greatly missed WBC lifetime President

Don José Sulaiman Chagnón for having come up with this brilliant idea.

Our President had always been a man of broad views who had devoted his life for the

good of boxing.

Sincerely yours,

Mauro BETTI

The WBC International Championships were created by President José Sulaiman in Aruba in 1986, during our annual Convention.

Att. Antonio Sciarra was appointed as Chairman of the Committee.

Antonio was indeed a very close friend of Don José.

As two real brothers, they were often at odds of ideas even if, in the end, their true friendship always made them reconcile.

In 1993 I was attending the WBC Annual Convention in Las Vegas, while Antonio did not come because seriously ill.

I was suddenly reached by a phone call from Rome to be sadly informed that Antonio had passed away.

While informing the General Assembly that Antonio had passed away, President Sulaiman appointed me as new Chairman.

Antonio was for me like a second father.

I am still missing him very much.

Page 59: Dear Don José … I will be missing you · Dear Don José … I will be missing you and I will ... “Robot” nickname just walking forward driving Hyppolite around the ... referee

I will be forever grateful to Antonio and to Don José and I must consider myself a lucky man for having met them during my life.

I had known Don José Sulaiman since 1982 and Antonio since 1981.

This year in Kunming (China) I have celebrated my 29th consecutive WBC Annual Convention. I have never missed one single Annual Convention in 29 years.

After giving me the great honor to inherit the office of Antonio as Chairman of the Committee back in 1993, Don José appointed me as member of the WBC Ratings Committee during the WBC Annual Convention held in 1998 in Johannesburg (South Africa).

In 2004, during the annual Convention in Pukhet, I entered the WBC Board of Governors as International Secretary and in 2014 in Las Vegas I have been elected as WBC Vice President.

Back in 1981 ( I was only 25 ) I started working for boxing at the Italian Olympic Committee in Rome. It was there that I met Antonio and started working for professional boxing. Antonio introduced me to the WBC the following year, when the WBC Annual Convention was held in Venice, Italy. I have always been a WBC man and I will never join another Organization.

Very truly yours, Mauro

Page 60: Dear Don José … I will be missing you · Dear Don José … I will be missing you and I will ... “Robot” nickname just walking forward driving Hyppolite around the ... referee

Too often today envy and arrogance rule the world and should not be considered a rarity to see how easily the mud is thrown on the face of a possible opponent or competitor by those who have nothing to do with ethics and good faith.

Something must be done to fight with all our might to defend the credibility of our Sport.Fortunately, the World Boxing Council has always been united, even in very difficult moments such as when we saw the world collapse during the amazing "Rocchigiani“ case .Thanks to the personality and the wisdom of Don Jose Sulaiman, along with the great unity of the WBC Board members, the nightmare was over and the sky clear again in the WBC planet .

RemarksAnd it is in fact important to remember that during the above mentioned season Graziano Rocchigiani fought for the WBC green belt. It was indeed for the vacant WBC International lightheavyweight title. The fight was promoted by Universum Box Promotion on May 10th 2003 in Stuttgart (Germany) when Rocchigianilost on points to Thomas Ulrich. That fight happened when the WBC was still in the trenches to fight against the absurd sentence decided by an American judge in New York. Therefore, all those (too many ... today ...) that spit venom ontheir potential antagonists should understand that we will be able to ensure a better future for boxing.

I hope these few lines have not bored you to tears ….

... Any reference to events or people is purely coincidental ...

Friendly yours,

Mauro Betti
