Product Overview Zurich vehicle service contracts provide mechanical breakdown coverage. Universal Underwriters Service Corporation (UUSC), an individual member company of Zurich in North America, is the issuing provider and administrator of Zurich’s vehicle service contracts in all states. In California and New York, UUSC operates under its DBA, UUSC Service Company. In Florida, the issuing provider and administrator is Vehicle Dealer Solutions, Inc.

Zurich’s vehicle service contract program is an extensive offering that includes plans for new vehicles (retail and leased), used vehicles and manufacturer’s certified vehicles with multiple coverage, term, and deductible options that help to ensure a perfect fit for every customer.

Zurich vehicle service contracts have value-added benefits for additional protection: immediate car rental for covered repairs, emergency roadside assistance and trip interruption coverage. Dealerships and repair facilities across the United States and Canada will honor Zurich vehicle service contracts.

Contracts are transferrable to the second individual purchaser or cancellable with rules that vary by state.

Lenders It is always recommended to contact lenders before a contract is sold to ensure they will finance Zurich vehicle service contracts. Nationwide approval of Zurich vehicle service contract forms has been provided by Ally Financial and Ford Motor Credit Company. Toyota Motor Credit Corporation has provided approval in some states. Please contact your Toyota representative to verify approval in your state. If forms are not approved, we will coordinate with you to make the submission to Toyota as required per their checklist.

• Any model sold by other dealers, lessors or private parties


Ineligible Models – Usage/Modification Vehicles that are completed with non-factory modifications, or designed for ineligible purposes, will not be considered for coverage. • Used for commercial hauling, delivery, limousine service, ride share or transportation network (e.g. Uber, Lyft)

(This exclusion is waived when the Commercial Use Option is selected.)

• Used for hauling or towing in excess of the manufacturer's limitations and specifications

• Used for rental, racing, speed contest or other competition, police car, security vehicle, emergency vehicle, shuttle service, taxi or commercial towing

• Equipped to plow snow, whether or not the plow blade is attached (This exclusion is waived when the Snowplow Option is selected.)

• Modified for off-road usage or high performance equipment including, but not limited to engine, transmission, drive axle, exhaust systems, suspension, lift kits, oversized/undersized tires

Exceptions to Eligibility • Company-owned vehicles that meet all other eligibility guidelines for a VSC based on usage may purchase a

VSC. The company name should be indicated as the purchaser on the contract form.

• Exceptions may be granted on certain ineligible vehicles where a conversion invoice, outlining the way in which the vehicle was completed, has been provided. No exception shall be granted without the accompanying invoice. When an exception is granted, the non-factory modifications will not be covered by the service contract. Exceptions on incomplete vehicles are intended to accommodate cosmetic changes made for personal use.


Coverage Coverage availability varies by model year and odometer reading.

New vehicle plans and many Used vehicle plans include coverage for seals and gaskets of covered parts, as well as the failure of a covered part due to a gradual reduction in operating performance as a result of normal wear and tear.

Some used vehicle plans exclude seals and gaskets and/or wear and tear coverage.

Rental Reimbursement Your customers will be reimbursed for expenses incurred for the rental of a substitute vehicle through a licensed rental agency during the repair covered by the vehicle service contract or manufacturer’s warranty.

• Compensation up to $40 per day for a maximum of 10 days or until the vehicle is repaired, whichever occurs first

• No overnight stay is required

Emergency Roadside Assistance Your customers will receive benefits of a sign-and-drive roadside assistance program. The customer calls the 24 hour toll free number (800.831.6870) to have a service provider dispatched. Benefits are subject to a maximum of $100 per occurrence.

Benefits include:

• Towing

• Jump starts

• Flat tire changes (using the inflated spare tire)

• Delivery of emergency supply of fuel, oil, fluid or coolant

• Lockout service (key cutting is not included)

Trip Interruption Coverage Your customers will receive reimbursement of restaurant and hotel/motel expenses if the covered vehicle becomes inoperable, and in need of repair when traveling away from home.

• Breakdown must occur more than 100 miles away from the contract holder’s home

• Maximum reimbursement of $250 per day for maximum of three days or until the vehicle is repaired, whichever occurs first


Optional Coverage Vehicles equipped to plow snow or vehicles used for commercial purposes are not eligible unless optional coverage is added.

Canadian Vehicle Option New vehicles manufactured for distribution in Canada that are brought into the United States often no longer include the manufacturer’s warranty and are therefore, considered ineligible for Zurich service contract coverage. However, if the Canadian Vehicle option is selected, eligibility is amended to allow Used Plans to be sold on these vehicles.

Snowplow Option The Snowplow option amends eligibility to include vehicles equipped to plow snow, whether or not the plow blade is attached.

If the vehicle will be used to plow snow for other than personal use, both the Commercial Use and Snowplow options must be selected.

Commercial Use Option The Commercial Use option amends eligibility to include vehicles that are used for commercial hauling, delivery, limousine service, ride share or transportation network (e.g. Uber, Lyft).

The Commercial Use option does not provide coverage for vehicles:

• Used for hauling or towing in excess of the manufacturer’s limitations and specification, or

• Used for rental, racing, speed contest or other competition, police car, security vehicle, emergency vehicle, shuttle service, taxi or commercial towing.


New Vehicle Plans New vehicle plans are for vehicles within or just outside the basic manufacturer’s warranty.

Eligibility 0 – 4 model years old (current and next calendar year = 0) 0 – 50,000 miles (odometer reading as of the date of sale) or still within the manufacturer’s basic warranty. Coverage New vehicle plans are available in four coverages. Powertrain coverage is not available on terms that are less than the manufacturer’s powertrain warranty term.

Deductibles Deductible options available for new vehicle plans: $0, $50, $100, $200, $100 Waiver, $250 Waiver, $300

Waiver deductibles: If the contract holder returns to the selling dealer for a covered repair, the deductible is waived. Otherwise, the deductible ($100 or $250) will apply if the covered repair is performed elsewhere.

$300 deductible: Only available on Comprehensive coverage for Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volvo models.

Term Offering The new vehicle plan term offering is determined by the vehicle mileage. Please see Appendix B – New Vehicle Plan Term Offering for details.

Expiration New vehicle plan expiration is calculated from the contract date of sale and zero miles. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term has elapsed from the contract date of sale or the vehicle odometer reaches the term miles, whichever occurs first.


Used Vehicle Plans Used vehicle plans are for vehicles without basic manufacturer’s warranty.

Eligibility 0 – 15 model years old (current and next calendar year = 0) 0 – 200,000 miles (odometer reading as of the date of sale) Coverage Coverage availability varies by age and mileage of the vehicle.

Term Offering The used vehicle plan term offering is determined by the vehicle age and mileage of the vehicle. Please see Appendix C – Used Vehicle Plan Term Offering for details of term availability by coverage. Expiration Used vehicle plan expiration is calculated from the contract date of sale and odometer miles on that date. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term has elapsed from the contract date of sale or the vehicle odometer is equal to the term mileage plus the mileage on the vehicle on the contract date of sale, whichever occurs first.


Select Plans Select plans are designed to complement the manufacturer’s warranty, which makes them ideal for leased vehicles.

Select Comprehensive The Select Comprehensive plan is designed for vehicles with a 36/36,000 basic manufacturer’s warranty.

Coverage Component parts coverage and additional benefits are identical to the traditional comprehensive service contract. Additional benefits include rental reimbursement, emergency roadside assistance and trip interruption coverage.

Deductible The customer deductible is $0.

Term Offering 36/45,000 36/65,000 39/39,000 39/49,000 39/59,000 42/42,000 48/48,000 Expiration Expiration is calculated from the contract date of sale and zero miles. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term has elapsed from the contract date of sale or the vehicle odometer reaches the term miles, whichever occurs first.

Rental Plus The Rental Plus plan provides compensation for expenses incurred for the rental of a substitute vehicle through a licensed rental agency for a manufacturer’s warranty repair.

Eligibility 0 – 3 model years old (current and next calendar year = 0) 0 – 36,000 miles (odometer reading as of the date of sale) Any vehicle make that is eligible for a vehicle service contract is eligible for the Rental Plus plans.

Rental Plus is not available in California or Missouri.

Ford Motor Credit Company will not fund the Rental Plus plan.

Coverage Your customers will be reimbursed for expenses incurred for the rental of a substitute vehicle through a licensed rental agency during the repair covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Compensation is up to $40 per day for a maximum of 2 days or until the vehicle is repaired, whichever occurs first. Deductible The customer deductible is $0.

Term Offering 24 Months 36 Months Expiration Expiration is calculated from the contract date of sale. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term has elapsed from the contract date of sale.


Manufacturer Certified Vehicle Upgrade Plans Manufacturer certified vehicle upgrade plans are designed to complement the manufacturer’s certified vehicle warranty. They “wrap” around the manufacturers certified vehicle warranty. Specific term offerings have been developed by make. The vehicle original in-service date is required to offer these plans

Eligibility The vehicle must be certified by the manufacturer to qualify for a manufacturer certified upgrade plan. Makes with a manufacturer certified vehicle upgrade plan:

Term Offering The manufacturer certified upgrade plan term offering varies by make.

Expiration Manufacturer certified upgrade plan expiration is calculated from the vehicle’s original in-service date and zero miles. The coverage expires when the length of time of the term has elapsed from the vehicle’s original in-service date or the vehicle odometer reaches the term miles, whichever occurs first.


Administrative Procedures Contact Zurich F&I Customer Service at 888.805.1594 with questions regarding administrative procedures.

New Business New contracts and remit should be submitted to Zurich by the 10th of each month.

Transfers The original purchaser may transfer the contract to a second purchaser, if the transfer is submitted within 30 days of transferring vehicle ownership. Vehicle usage by the second owner must comply with eligibility. Contracts are not transferable to or through any dealer or third party. Transferred contracts are non-cancelable.

Remittance Process 1. Complete the contract and have the purchaser sign and date where indicated.

2. Distribute all contract copies to the applicable parties.

3. Finalize the electronic contracts and close the electronic remit register.

Transfer Process 1. Obtain a copy of documentation evidencing change of title.

2. Complete the transfer form. Contact F&I Customer Service to obtain the transfer form.

3. Draft a check made payable to Universal Underwriters Service Corporation for the applicable transfer fee amount. The transfer fee is $50 in all states, except Florida where the transfer fee is $40.

4. Submit documentation and check to Zurich.

Cancellations Cancellation provisions vary by state. See Appendix E – Cancellation Rules for details of state specific cancellation rules and fees. The cancellation fee is $75 if a state specific cancellation fee is not indicated. Additional cancellation fees or processing fees charged by the dealership are prohibited. Transferred contracts cannot be cancelled.

Claims The claims department toll-free number is 800.423.4566.

The claims department is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Time.

Claims Authorization Prior authorization is required for any repairs.

Claims Authorization Process • Obtain customer approval for diagnosis of the breakdown.

• Obtain authorization for repairs from our claims department.

Before you call, please have the following information available:

1. Contract number

2. Customer’s full name

3. Last six digits of the VIN

4. Current mileage on the vehicle

5. Date and number of your repair order

6. Description of breakdown

7. Accurate estimate of the repair or replacement cost (including covered parts and related labor)


Claims Submission Claims must be submitted within 30 days from the date of repair.

Claims When Customer is Traveling The toll free number for the customer claims department is 800.643.9059.

Self-authorization • You are authorized to adjust your own claims up to $500 (after customer deductible).

• If the final repair cost exceeds $500 (after customer deductible), authorization is required from our claims department.

• No claims over $500 will be paid without an authorization.

• Attention California dealers: You may not self-authorize claims if your dealership participates in a profit participation program.

Parts Pricing Allowance • Dealers are allowed manufacturers’ suggested list price on parts unless the mechanical breakdown occurs within the first 30

days of the contract term for a used vehicle.

• If a mechanical breakdown occurs within the first 30 days of contract term for a used vehicle, dealers will be paid 75% of manufacturer’s suggested list price on covered parts.

• Parts pricing allowance may vary in some locations. Consult your Dealer Agreement for specific terms and conditions.

Labor Time Allowance • The labor time allowance for the covered repair will be determined by the labor manual originally selected by your dealership.

• We will accept Factory, Chilton, Motor, or Mitchell flat rate manuals.

• Use your current customer retail hourly charge for pricing labor.

Claims Submission process 1. Write the claim authorization number on your repair order near the customer’s name.

2. Before releasing the vehicle, obtain the customer’s signature on the repair order and collect the deductible, if applicable.

3. Submit all claim information to Zurich.

Claims Process When Customer is Traveling When a customer calls in regard to a mechanical breakdown when traveling, please obtain the following information before contacting our claims department:

1. Customer’s name

2. Telephone number where they can be reached

3. A brief description of the breakdown

We will contact the customer to provide necessary instructions and assistance as required. As a convenience to them, we can also arrange payment for authorized repairs directly with the repairing facility.


Sublet Repairs On sublet repairs, you will be reimbursed for the actual cost of the repair. We will allow an additional ½ hour of labor time (at your current retail labor rate) to cover your administrative costs. Include a copy of the sublet repair order when you submit the claim.

Claims Inspections In some cases, the claims adjuster may ask to examine the vehicle before the repair is authorized. An independent mechanical inspector will then be assigned to visit your service department to inspect the vehicle and take photographs.

• The inspector will relay information to our claims department, usually before leaving your dealership.

• The inspectors have no authority to approve or deny claims.

Manufacturer Warranty Deductible If a contract holder’s repair requires a manufacturer’s warranty deductible to be paid, contact our claims department to determine if the customer’s contract will contribute an amount towards this deductible.

Engine Oil Consumption On any oil consumption problems, you are required to call our claims department before beginning any disassembly or diagnosis.

Appendix E – Cancellation Rules Cancellation Provision The following is the consumer service contract cancellation provision with the state exception language that pertains to cancellation rules.

Cancellation of Contract You may cancel your contract by providing written notice of cancellation to the seller or us. Your signed cancellation notice must specify your vehicle identification number (VIN), the reason for cancellation, effective date of cancellation and odometer reading on the cancellation effective date. The cancellation effective date may not be more than 90 days prior to the receipt of the cancellation notice. If cancelled, your contract may not be repurchased or coverage reinstated on your vehicle. We may only cancel your contract for fraud, material misrepresentations or for non-payment of the contract charge. We will mail a written notice to you at your last known address contained in our records at least 15 days prior to cancellation by us. The notice shall state the effective date of the cancellation and the reason for cancellation. If your contract is cancelled, a portion of the contract charge will be refunded to you or a party authorized by you. You will receive a full refund if cancellation is within 60 days of the contract date of sale and you have not incurred a claim. You will receive a pro rata refund if cancellation is after 60 days of the contract date of sale, or you have incurred a claim. A pro rata refund is based on the lesser of days or miles remaining of the contract term, less a $75 cancellation fee. When financing is provided for your contract, you must provide the lienholder's contact information and your account number or evidence the lienholder has been paid in full. The refund will be issued to the lienholder unless evidence of payoff is provided. Your lienholder may cancel your contract in the event your vehicle is a total loss or is repossessed.
