One of the major concerns raised was of heavy trucks using the pass. Oakley van Eyk, representative from SANRAL, confirmed in a letter to Ralph Humphreys that signs in Heanertsburg prohibit trucks from using the R71 through Magoebaskloof. It was proposed that insurance companies be made aware of the fact that heavy vehicles are prohibited from using the pass, and as such should not be covered when an accident occurs there. Some present suggested that trucks are avoiding the R81 through Mooketsi to avoid the weighbridge and asked that a weighbridge in Tzaneen be implemented to dissuade truck drivers from using the road. The community agreed that traffic rules were inadequately enforced and it was suggested that patrols be done at night rather than during the day, as this is when most of the serious accidents occur. It was also suggested that trucks should be stopped and fined an appropriate distance before the turn off, and then be turned around. The problem of inadequate signage was among the issues addressed. The sign in Heanertsburg is too late to afford trucks the opportunity to turn around, thus a sign in Polokwane was proposed, suggesting alternate, legal routes. The headmaster of Stanford Lake College, Craig Carolan, proposed erecting positive, welcoming signs reminding them to adhere to the speed limit, adding that Stanford was prepared to sponsor such a sign. The issue of a lack of “concealed entrance” signs was also raised. There are many of these entrances along the pass that only residents know about. This regularly leads to residents being illegally overtaken as they are waiting to turn down these paths. Other issues discussed were all classes of vehicles speeding, illegally overtaking on solid barriers and around blind corners. Other suggestions included lighting the R71/R528 intersection at night, roadblocks at the entrance into and exit out of the pass, and more visible signage. As per a letter written by Van Eyk that was published in last week’s issue, SANRAL is in the process of procuring additional road signage to warn truck drivers to drive in a lower gear and also to reduce their speed to 60km/h. A committee was set up to meet with the relevant authorities and carry these proposals forward. TWO more suspects have been arrested in connection with a case of stock theft in which a live cow was discovered stuffed into the boot of a car.

Jeffrey and Thomas Nkuna of Nwamitwa, aged 24 and 32 years respectively were granted a bail of R2000 each when the appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

The duo will join their alleged accomplice, Erans Shingange (30) of Rwanda Village, Letsitele in court on September 10.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Cololonel Moatshe Ngoepe said members of the Road Policing Unit were on patrol on the Letsitele-Tzaneen public road when they stopped a blue sedan with a Gauteng registration number on a Wednesday night, last month.

“When the vehicle came to a standstill, three passengers jumped out of the car and ran away leaving the driver behind. Upon searching the vehicle police discovered a live cow stuffed into the boot of a sedan and arrested, Shigange who was the driver,” said Ngoepe.

He said that investigations revealed that the cow in question was stolen from a farm in the Trichardsdal area.

Shigange’s alleged accomplices were arrested two weeks later.

Magistrate’s Court on 11 charges of business robbery last week.

Madala Daniel Mhlongo (30), who was on the police’s most wanted list of criminals and his girlfriend, Nesta Tinyiko Maluleke (24) were remanded in police custody until Friday, August 22, pending further investigations.

Mhlongo of Lusaka village and Maluleke of Mahonisi Village in Malamulele were both arrested last month in a joint operation by the Tzaneen Cluster Task Team, Public Order Policing and Crime Intelligence operatives at Mahonisi Village in Malamulele for business robberies and car hijacking committed in Tzaneen, Giyani, Ritavi, Letsitele, Thohoyandou and Vuwani areas.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said they received a tip off that the suspects were hiding in Malamulele.

Mhlongo face a further charge of car hi-jacking which happened in Tzaneen whilst his girlfriend appeared in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed fi rearm and ammunition.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola hailed the arrest of the duo as a huge success.

Masemola said there was no hiding place for criminals. “The suspect thought he could evade capture.

Police have the capability to pursue criminals relentlessly, track them down, and put them behind bars.

No matter how hard criminals try to evade justice they will not succeed,” he said.

Ek sal graag so lank as moontlik betrokke wil wees.”

“My pa,” glimlag sy. Hy was regtig ‘n besondere mens in my lewe.”

Daar gaan weer ‘n

CLINIX Phalaborwa Private Hospital hosted a Maternity Open Day on Saturday.

Expectant parents attended in a large number. Dr Vital Kalumba, a gynaecologist at the hospital, said pregnancy is the time to look after yourself very, very carefully. ‘Staying healthy during pregnancy depends on you, so it’s crucial to arm yourself with information about the many ways to keep you and your baby as healthy as possible,’ said Kalumba. The maternity unit manager Sister Sophie Sibiya said the minute you become pregnant, your life is irrevocably changed.

Suddenly there is a little person to consider and everything you do somehow affects the little person. ‘There are a few things you can do to ensure your pregnancy is a healthy and happy time for both you and your unborn child,’ said Sibiya. She gave a talk on blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV/ Aids, weight gain and headache problems during pregnancy. She further said that the best start to your pregnancy is to ensure that you visit your gynaecologist or health care as soon as possible. Good nutrition is another important factor in pregnancy and Sibiya warns that this does not give you a licence to eat anything you want! ‘When you’re pregnant you are “eating for two”, but this doesn’t mean

you have to consume calories for two, it means consume nutrients for two,’ said Sibiya. She also advised the expecting mothers not to take any medications, even over-the-counter medications, without fi rst discussing them with healthcare provider or pharmacist. ‘Minimise stress because stress can worsen nausea, fatigue, backache, headache and indigestion. Be especially kind to yourself during this special time. Don’t take on too much work, listen to your body and get plenty of rest, most importantly, enjoy this very special time.

Take the time to bond with your unborn baby, savour every little movement and talk to your baby often,’ concluded Sibiya. The hospital marketing manager Virnicia Mathebula told the pregnant parents about all the benefi ts when you give birth at the hospital. ‘We give you a Clinix bag with baby starter packs like nappies, surgical spirit, baby powder ect, employees from Home Affairs assist with birth certifi cates at the hospital and a photo of your new baby get posted on our website,’ said Mathebula. Expectant parents were taken in a tour around the maternity ward and hospital and they received goodie bags with baby

products with useful hints and tips. Refreshments and nutritious sandwiches were served during the Maternity Open Day.

MASSCASH, through its wholesale division Tzaneen Cash and Carry, offi cially handed over the Econo Kitchen containers to two school in Bolobedu on Friday.

The mobile kitchens were donated to Motloboni Combined School in Matipane and Leakhale Primary School in Madumeleng.

According to Masscash Customer Relations Offi cer, Raeesa Peer, the donation of Econo kitchens is aimed at empowering schools to have immediate access to food by enabling them to prepare meals in a hygienic space.

He said that food for more than 1200 learners can be prepared in one Econo kitchen. “These Econo Kitchens will enable Masscash to reassure their communities of their value statement, ‘We partner with retailers so that communities live better’,” said Peer.

She added that the company offers a wide range of products under the Econo brand at Cash & Carry’s,including Tzaneen and Saverite Supermarket franchise stores across the country.

The manager of Tzaneen Cash and Carry, Ruffat Mokonyane said they worked with the Modjadji Circuit manager, Matome Mailula, to identify the schools which were most in need of the kitchen container.

Mokonyane said that the Econo Kitchen project is a Corporate Social Investment initiative driven by Masscash and is part of the company’s commitment to support schools’ feeding projects.

Econo sponsored lunch on the day of the handover at the schools. He said that Rathaga Primary School, also in Bolobedu, received a kitchen container early this year.

He appealed to parents to support Tzaneen Cash and Carry and other Masscash stores so that more resources can be ploughed back to the community.

Masscash sustainability offi cer, Engedzani Dzebu, said the company gives back to the communities one percent of its profi t after

paying tax. “Through this initiative, Masscash hopes to make a relevant and notable contribution to support the education of our children,” said Dzebu.

She said many learners throughout the country have already benefi ted from the donation of the Econo kitchens. Motloboni Primary School principal, David Molewa thanked Masscash and Tzaneen Cash and Carry for what he says is their generous donation. He said during rainy days, workers were unable to prepare food for the learners because there was no proper kitchen structure at the school. The donation included gas bottles, pots and other kitchen utensils.

‘Ons is ‘n vierde generasie boerdery so

‘Nooit! Ek het geen behoefte nie. Boerdery is “best of both worlds”. Persoonlike stimulasie is eintlik onbeperk in boerdery.’

Rainbow Combined School greet Grade 12’sRAINBOW Combined School held their annual Matric Farewell at Hotel@Tzaneen recently.

The hall was beautifully decorated for a Roaring twenties party – it was a “Gatsby affair”, and the young learners all looked very elegant.

In his motivational speech, Selaelo E. Leshabana, the acting chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Rainbow Combined School, said he believes that the Gr 12 learners

have real conviction about what they will do in the world. He said his hope for them is that they will be distinguished ambassadors of Rainbow Combined School.

Music, good food, photos and fun ruled on this memorable night.

A big thanks to the school’s management and teachers, especially Elriëtte Kruger, who worked so hard to make this an unforgettable event for this class of 2014.

SPORTLETABA HERALD Friday August 22, 2014 27

2de ry: Miha de Jager, Jonelle Oberholzer, Rina Ndlovu. 3de ry: Yune de Lange, Sumari Nel, Mmadikhole Lesailane, Jolene Spaumer. 4de ry: Shima Mphahlele, Jacques Kriel, Lara Schu e, Carmen Botha, Lisa Botha. 5de ry: vlnr: Dian Bovil, Nicola Liversage, Sarel Sibuyi. 6de ry: vlnr: Danie Heckroodt, Jonrick Korff . 7de ry: vlnr: JP Venter, Nsako Nkwinika

Vossies in Noordvaal

gebruik is. Hier moet skuts senuwees

Well done hockeyTHE Stanford Lake College U/16 hockey team travelled to Potchefstroom during the week of August 6-9 to take part in the Noordvaal hockey tournament.

The team had an exceptional start, winning both group games and ending on top of their group. They beat Eldoraign 2 - 1 and Transvalia 3 - 2. The highlight of the two games was that the team managed to convert three short corners in the 5 goals they scored. In the play-offs, they lost to Nelspruit but fought back to beat Krugersdorp 6 - 2.

On the last morning, they played Sasolburg for 5th and 6th place. Although some good hockey was played, unfortunately they could not convert the chances and drew the game 1- 1. They then lost on the 8 second shoot out and ended 6th out of 12 teams. Well done on a great season boys!
