Food is one of God's "very good" gifts to His creatures (Genesis 1:29-31; 2:9; 9:3).

Though God placed many food restrictions, described in terms of "clean" and

"unclean," in regard to the diet of ancient Israel, Jesus proclaimed all foods

"clean" (Mark 7:19). As Christians, the only restriction in regard to food is that we

thankfully receive what we eat as a gift from God (Matthew 6:11; 1 Timothy 4:3-5). Thus, our

very earliest brothers and sisters in Christ daily received food ("broke bread") in their homes

with "glad and generous hearts" (Acts 2:46). We are to be content with food God gives us

(1 Timothy 6:8) and to care for fellow Christians who may be lacking daily food (James 2:15).

I find it intriguing that the resurrected Jesus still eats (Luke 24:39-43).

Lots of eating goes on in November and December each year. In recent years one of the

highlights of this season for Cindy and me is to open our home to North "A" members for

joyful Sunday evening supper of soup. We would be honored for any and all to participate

in this meal this coming Lord's Day. Perhaps gatherings such as this offer us a glimpse, as

sample, of the great "wedding feast" to come (Revelation 19:6-9).
