The vision of Iron Sharpen Iron and co-hosts spoken word artist D.J Simmons and creative arts entrepreneur Empress Zingha is to showcase the versaltile, intelligent and stimulat-ing talent of our own quality artists through Spoken Word and Song that awaken our spirits and push up goosbumps. Talent skillfully woven and broadcasted to our very souls becomes the nucleus and niche attracting a movement of people.

Infinity hotel provides the perfect headquarters and home for confident strides and infectious smiles that are created when lyrics drum through the mic opening the hearts of the speak-er. Satisfaction is sung from every angle. Delectable food from the kitchen of Lee’s Bistro and creative cocktails concoted be-hind the bar also supplement the evening of art.

Everyone coming confident, dressed to destress.

It is simple to have a good time. Once De Vibe nice. And trust me, de vibe too nice to let it get way so...

D.J Simmons simply put, is a pure Bajan poet. This gifted writer, who has been de-scribed as being a “diamond in the rough”, has the knack of portraying relatable life’s experiences in an unintentional comical manner. No matter the theme this versatile writer is discussing, one could always recognise that style that is distinctly D.J.

This inspirational spoken word artist stands as an example of following one’s dream and he is an infinite source of encouragement. D.J’s work is filled of songs for every season and a rhyme for every reason.

“The first “ De Vibe Open Mic” night in May at the Infinity Hotel in St. Lawrence Gap was such great en-tertainment that I can’t wait for the second one on June 21st! Hosted by DJ Simmons and Iron Sharpen Iron, a packed house enjoyed faces and talents we already admired (just to mention a few), like Robert Gibson, Keoma Mallett, Adaeze, Damien Pinder and Clish Gittens, the incomparable D.J him-self and of course featured artist, singer Simon Pipe . And we discovered new (to me) talents like Amy Hinkson and Francois Clarke. Good food, a stocked bar and a 2 room setting that made for easy socializing added up to a cool night. Bring on the next one!” - Penny Hynam

lol. I love what transpires from his open mic nights every Thursday so I know this event would have been a good time to show case the apparel side of IRIE ONE and be part of this amazing event. Last but definitely not least Simon Pipe and all who performed that night gave a 110% of their heart and soul. I can’t wait to be part of the next event to be held on the 21st of June at the same Venue. Thanks DJ for the love and letting Irie One be a part to this awesome VIBE .” - Irie Wilson

“On the 24th of May, I had the opportunity to be part of the first DE VIBE event held at the Infinity Hotel on the Beach , St.Law-rence Gap. The atmosphere was filled with a fresh creative ambiance as the performers did their pieces and showcased their arts. I have been a fan of the Good Life Cafe from the first time I walked through their doors. When DJ asked if I wanted to donate an Irie One shirt as a prize, to me it was a no brainer

For Jason Morris, music is who he is and where he always wanted to be. His love affair with music started at the early age of 4, and was reinforced through various musical groups and orchestras of the Christ Church (now Mylton Lynch) Primary and Queen’s College Secondary school orchestras. These formative years allowed Jason to quickly forge his musical foundation, quickly becoming recognized by the school for his musical prowess and aptitude. In addition to improving his playing ability, and successfully completing examinations in practical and theory of music. Jason also expanded his appetitie to include new instruments, infulences and styles becoming one of the inaugural members of the Queen’s College ‘Tuk Band’ and Steel Pan orchestra.

Jomo began to play the drums at Ellersie Secondary School, where he played fo rthe cadets and later played the full drum set with the school orchestra, moving on to play with the Barbados Youth Orchestra. During that time he had the honour of a drum lesson with Barbadian legend el Verno del Congo. In 2008 Jomo stumbled upon a djembe drum one night by happy circumstance while at a bar with some friends, and got the opportunity to play it. Now he plays anywhere he can, infecting others with his passion for his instrument and his knowledge of beats.

“De Vibe was a tremendous experi-ence for us at Infinity on the Beach. The production crew was able to trans-form our conference room into an inti-mate setting, ideal for this event. The crowd was phenomenal and they real-ly seemed to enjoy the space and the fantastic line up of performances. The event ran smoothly with a great mix of the organic spoken word and the planned musical set. It was a fine mix of talented artists, great food and drinks, and a cool ambiance that left everyone eagerly awaiting the next instal-ment of De Vibe Open Mic & Lounge”.
